Here's what bothered me about lost world.and WARNING SPOILERS....
It was obvious that lost world was written in response to the jurassic park MOVIE. I mean, even one of the main characters that died in the book but lived in the movie mysteriously comes back to life at the beginning of lost world. That really bothered me.
It bothers me too, I mean, who comes back to life? I know that this is fiction - dinosaurs. But seriously, coming back to life. That's a bit much.
I'm not really into Crichton, believe it or not. I find his books a bit formulaic, which makes them incredibly predictable for me. But if I have to choose between the two, I'll take Jurassic.
Copypasted from my reviews:Jurassic Park was a magnificent cautionary tale of the shortsighted arrogance of man, the ever persistence of life and evolution and, ultimately, the chaotic, uncontrollable, unmappable nature of behavioral systems.
The Lost World was destined to be worse than Jurassic Park from its very conception. Michael Crichton had no reason for writing this book other than to satiate the growing desire, of both Steven Spielburg and the public, for a second book so there'd be an excuse to make another movie. And it shows. JP was written on Crichton's own terms; he had meticulously laid out what he was trying to convey and how the story would be structured.
This was more of a rehashed version; an expository discussion on the nature of life and death with a fairly simple dinosaur story tossed in as a backdrop.
The Lost World is just a complete shambles, to the point of making me quite angry. I wrote a very damning review.

Yes! I have to agree! And didn't he try to pass it off as a "medical miscalculation" or something. Like "oops, you aren't really dead. sorry"
I never saw the movie, the Lost World. I did like the book. It scared the crap out of me. It was all action. But Jurassic was scary in a different way. Showing how that greedy people who think they are so smart totally screw up everything by trying to change things that they shouldn't. The banking meltdown of 2009 is a case in point. No raptors but just as scary.
I liked The Great Train Robbery and Andromeda Strain. I saw the movie Jurassic Park, and enjoyed it!
I remember an interview with Michael Crichton when The Lost World movie came out. He said he wrote it in response to children's reactions to Jurassic Park. They wanted more good dinosaur action at the start of the movie, instead of having to wait. He was writing in response to the demands of his readers and viewers.
Personally, I can't pick between the two. I feel that they are two halves of a whole and must be read together to get the Big Picture.
I love both of them including Dragon Teeth, because three of them are Crichton’s Dinosaur Novels, But Jurassic Park are the Best Dinosaur in Literature and Crichton’s Best Novel Ever!

Me, too. That's why I never bothered to finish, much less actually START, reading The Lost World.
Jurassic Park was one of the scariest books I ever read. How scientist who think they are so smart can make an utter mess of things. just like the COVID pandemic and RNA vaccine! A worldwide disaster waiting to happen. I saw andromeda strain in the theater when it came out. It gave me nightmares for months.
Truth is usually always gonna be more terrifying than anything a fiction writer can dream up...and they can dream up some wildly terrifying s**t..

Am I the only person here to have read The Andromeda Evolution ( https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...) ?

Please see my reply from the 8th of this month, Vikas.
I don't see The Andromeda Strain. That was an incredible book, read it twice, back in my late teens. I was excited to read Jurassic Park when it came out and hated it so much, I couldn't finish it. I remember being so disappointed and thinking, who would want to read this? Imagine my shock when the 1st movie came out... the the 2nd, 3rd, 4th... I definitely got that wrong... (Still have no desire to try and make through JP now...)
