Declan I would be more than happy to read Berlin Stories, even though I didn't vote for it. My problem, however, is that the book is not available in my part of the world until March.

message 2: by Selena (new)

Selena Is an ereader copy available if print isn't?

message 3: by Declan (new)

Declan I haven't checked on that Selena because I don't have an ereader and I don't want one either! I am radically pro-book!

message 4: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Come on, won't somebody break the tie?

message 5: by Aaron (new)

Aaron I see voting is closed, but I vote for Walser, definitely.

Declan Aaron wrote: "I see voting is closed, but I vote for Walser, definitely."

It's a bit silly if voting is closed given that two books are tied and we don't need a result until February. Walser now has six anyway with your vote Aaron, so that should be the choice unless others are trying to vote too. My only problem with the Walser book is that it doesn't become available in book form until March, so it seems to me to be a premature choice, and there are two other Walser books in the back catalogue which could have been listed instead.

message 7: by Pragya (new)

Pragya The voting's closed, else I would have voted for Lolly Willowes : Or the Loving Huntsman

message 8: by Anne (new)

Anne It's still a tie. We have one write-in for Berlin Stories and one for Lolly Willowes.

I've opened it up again to break the deadlock. Keep voting! If it is still a tie at the end of the week I'm going to break to cast the tie-braking vote myself, if people think thats fair. Not sure yet where to vote, loved Townsend Warner's Mr. Fortune, but also have never read any Walser and he has many fans.

Anne Selena,

great idea! But I think you're too late. We don't have a tie any longer.

lisa_emily If you have not been convinced to read the Walser, I recommend reading this to sway you, I just read it myself and was inspired:

Selena for future tie-breaking purposes, Nick, a PayPal account will be just fine! ;)

Hear, Hear, My Good Man!!! :)

message 18: by Declan (new)

Declan Thanks Mikki. Even better is that when I checked the Walser book at The Book Depository yesterday they no longer gave March 5th as the date of publication and so I was able to order it immediately. Another lovely book is on its way!

message 19: by Mikki (new)

Mikki Great! I'm ordering mine tonight along with Lolly Willowes : Or the Loving Huntsman, Life and Fate, The Tenants of Moonbloom and I'm sure that I'll find a few more....always do!

I agree, time for Nick to play the bad guy no matter the cost (to us). :)

message 21: by Selena (new)

Selena @Declan - i'm glad you're able to join in for february's read. :)

message 22: by Anne (new)

Anne Me too, Declan.

message 23: by Declan (new)

Declan Thanks a lot Selena and Anne. First of all I have to finish the January book! A tragic event, this past week, (the sort of death that should only happen in books) has meant that everything is out of kilter. But I do hope to catch up, just before the month comes to an end.

message 24: by Anne (new)

Anne Oh, Declan. Sounds horrible. Hope you're back with us soon.

Best wishes to you.

message 25: by Declan (new)

Declan Thanks for you kind thoughts Anne.

message 26: by Mikki (new)

Mikki I'm sorry to hear this, Declan. Sending good thoughts your way.
