This can go both ways for sure. If you see the movie first, you aren't likely to be taken through such a great adventure, rush, adrenaline a good book can take you through. Plus, you are limiting creativity that develops in your brain when you read a book for the first time. However, if you watch some movies first before some books, you can understand some of the directors changes and appreciate the furthered knowledge of someone's point of view of a story that you know you will be reading in a few days. I say both are required to expand you knowledge. However, reading the book first is always a safe bet for any reader.

I agree. That is why I enjoy the book more. The book can take you places. The movie is the directors thoughts on a screen for other people to watch. I am not saying this is true for all movies, but The book is better.

I generally agree but found "The Martian" to be an exception to the rule. I didn't care for the change at the end but I'd heard beforehand that the change had been made and I didn't find it significant to the plot.
