Font size, and the line spacing wildly affect this number. This is an approximation, as I don't know what the book is.

Cheryl wrote: "totally depends on the book"I agree as I just read The Passenger in record time but it didn't have any boring areas for me. I can read a thriller much faster than something non-fiction.
To my frustration, I'm a really slow reader. However, no matter how good the book I couldn't read non stop - just have to take breaks. Might however put this to the test one miserable winter day!
I've been trying to speed up my reading, but no matter what I do I can't manage more than 30 pages an hour for fiction.
It takes me a long time to finish because I have six reading materials to read. Three books on my nook, one comic/manga, one physical book and one of those beautiful Barnes & Noble leatherbound classic books.I read two pages of Wuthering Heights per night, for example so I wouldn't get bored and quit.
Depending on the book, though. Which is why I chose 3-6 hours. If I love the book, then I usually zoom right through. I have read an almost 500 page book in 3.5 hours, because I loved it so much. But other books that are slow to get going, or have a larger vocabulary (GoT) are much longer reads.
I read about 60 pages an hour, so about 5 hours. However, like everyone else, depends on the interest level of the book.
I read mostly academic and scholarly history books, so it may take up to 12 hours as I like to think over what I'm reading. '
I'm busy writing and chauffeuring husband and kids so tend to read in small increments. 2 min while brushing teeth, 2 min while tea brews, that kind of thing. I LOVE having lots of time and can breeze through a novel in a few hours - gets costly though, even with ebooks :)
Mostly I spend around 4-6 hours to finish a 300 page book, but it also depends on the material I read. If I can get myself into the material I can finish it faster. In some cases, It takes me like forever to finish a 300 pages.
I really don't pay attention to how long it takes me to read a book; I'm more concerned with the habit of reading, every single day--as a means of entertainment and education, above all other activities. With reading, time factors dwindle under the overlay of enjoyment brought on by inveteracy.
Jennifer wrote: "3-6 hours, really? I'm lucky if I finish in a week. I'm gonna blame my kids, dog, and housework."I based mine off of if I had the ability to read non-stop with no normal every day interruptions lol. Which was about 3-6 hours.
Then again, I am also the Queen of Procrastination so housework and laundry go on my back burner until it is a necessity XD.
i'm a slow reader/a really good procrastinator so it really depends. but i usually read 1 or 2 books a week. sometimes i start a book, forget about it for a while then read it in two days.
If it is in English it takes me about 3-4 hours but if it's in my native language (Portuguese) I take 4-6 hours to read it.
It depends on the book. If it´s super interesting I can finish it in 4-5 hours, but if it´s boring, it can take a really long time.
It really depends on the book. If it grabs me really hard, then I literally can't eat, sleep, talk, answer the phone, or do anything but bury myself in it... then I fly through it!
It takes ETERNITY to me... I cannot concentrate on a book for that long. I truly never read such length book non-stop. I perfectly know that after an hour I would throw the book away because I got irritated by SITTING and... the hell I would get distracted by a butterfly or my cat meowing after 10 pages.
Depending on the time of day i read and what kind of distractions there are (i.e. food, drinks, electronics, work, bathroom breaks, sleep, etc.) i can read a 340 pg book in as little as 3 hours or as long as three weeks. And with the shakespear mention, it depends on ones understanding of the terminology, if you picked up the copy of romeo and juliet that has both original text and the new common text it will help you learn the terms and meaning for other works of his.
Universal caveat: depends. Not only on the book, but where I'm reading and the medium of the text (ebook, hard copy) can make a difference, too. If it's a really interesting book, I'll want to re-read passages (possibly entire pages), probably spend a minute or two thinking about the images and feelings the words conjured up. Could I tear through the pages faster? Absolutely. Sometimes it's not about how quickly you can do the thing. In fact, sometimes slower is better. ;-)
I could do it in one sitting 1 - 3 hours if I had that length of uninterrupted time in a day! ha, ha.
As far as I think, It completly depends on the book & of course your interest in that particualar genre.
Non-stop, probably 5-6 hours. Lately I haven't been able to dive into books and devour them. I read a little here, a little there, and sometimes it takes several weeks to finish a 300-page book.
5-7 hours it's enough for me of course the book should be in my native language to fully understand it
Julia wrote: "Today I read two 300 page books in a total of 5 hours. But they were really good! I couldn't put them down"I am jealous of your reading, I don't have the attention span, after about 2 hours I'm ready for bed
RavenclawBooknerd wrote: "but it kind of depends on the book ..."I dispute your use of capitalization, but concede your point regarding the current discussion.
Between 2 and 4 hours, depends on the book, the writing style and of course the language. I read faster in my 1st language, obviously.
If it is fiction and lightweight then I could do it in 6 hours at a casual pace.If it was a john pilger heavy non fiction it would take a few hours longer.
This does depend on the book. I spent hours and hours reading Pride and Prejudice, but a lot of Dutch books I read faster since I'm fluent. The language used also affects my reading pace.
It definitely depends on the book. If its a book that interests me, I can usually finish it within a couple hours, if I have enough free time.
Used to be really quick! But I have Lupus and it has affected my brain cognitively. I suffer horrible brain fog that makes it very hard to concentrate...🙄
It really does depend. I read “To Kill a Mockingbird” in a couple hours, also I read “War and Peace” in a few days. However, “Pride and Prejudice” and it took me a couple of weeks. My comprehension wasn’t affected by the speed, I remember them all as if I read them yesterday.
