Renee G totally depends on the book - if i'm reading for fun, faster, if i'm soaking up info, slower. If sentence structure and language selection is elementary, faster, if Neal Stephenson, then slower :)

message 52: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Read usually it would take me quite a while to read that long of book. like 2 wks.

message 53: by Anna (new)

Anna V. Depends on the size of the letters :D

message 54: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Definitely depends on the book.

message 55: by Uri (last edited Oct 24, 2013 03:59AM) (new)

Uri I recently read The Search by Iris Johansen in about 15 hours I think. I read for something like 11 hours straight in day one and about four hours in day two I think, but I could be wrong, this is just an estimate as I never time myself. I also agree that it totally depends on the book.

message 56: by Melissa (new)

Melissa If I was reading a 300 pg book I'd probably be done it in 3 hrs or less depending upon my interest. Just for example I read a 671 pg book the other day in 5 hrs but I was very much enjoying that book. I've read other books that have taken exceptionally longer and been much shorter.

message 57: by Liesbeth (new)

Liesbeth Heenk Reading for me is not 'leisure', but a question of concentration. I would not be able to read a 300-page book from cover to cover in one go.

message 58: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha Depends on the book and the definition of "nonstop". Between my family or my phone ringing it can be hard to read nonstop, but I can finish a book in half-a-day usually or even a whole day at most if I put my mind to it. If the book is heavy though I make myself stop so I can take a moment to digest what I've read.

message 59: by Loza-Muse (new)

Loza-Muse Depends... sometimes you just have to savour certain lines and enjoy them over and over before you move on. Especially when it comes to milestone like scenes <3 (RICHELLE MEEAAAD!!! 3AM AND I REGRET NOOOOOOOTHING!!!)

message 60: by Cailia (new)

Cailia That depends heavily on the book (i.e. the genre, subject matter, the author's writing style, etc.) and the environment in which I'm reading. I could get through a basic novel in 5-6 hours if I read non-stop in a quiet environment. A technical, non-fiction work could easily take twice as long, especially if I'm highlighting or otherwise taking notes. That said, I rarely ever read non-stop. Most books take me from a couple of days to a couple of weeks to get through, depending on what I have going on and how many books I'm reading at once.

message 61: by Alshia (new)

Alshia Moyez 1-3 hours if I read straight through and I don't stop for distractions.

message 62: by M (new)

M Not voting because I have absolutely no idea. Too many variables and I'm not a clock watcher when I'm reading.

message 63: by Arun Singh (new)

Arun Singh Ruhela Irina wrote: "If it's about a book I really like, then I want to savor it but I also read it nonstop. I would probably finish it in 8-9 hours."

Same Here :)

message 64: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy Pretty quick for me to read. I've finished 700 page books in a day.

message 65: by Jules (new)

Jules I don't really read books for hours non-stop. My eyes get tired and I stop processing properly. I read in snippets. Unless I find a SUPER good book or a bunch of free time where I just feel like reading and nothing else. But if I add all the snippets together, probably takes me between 5-6 hours for a 300 pager.

message 66: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy I read faster than most adults so maybe 2 hours if I'm in like that book trance

message 67: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Acosta I read, on average, 60 pages an hour - but it depends on the book. So I would think about 5 hours.

message 68: by Meg (new)

Meg Lindsay wrote: "If it was NOTHING but reading, I would guess about three hours. However, every half hour to hour I need to take a break from the book or else I'll just get antsy and become all too aware of other ..."

likewise. "only reading" would mean just a few hours. But we know that is not what all it is about. :)

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

It depends on the book, not just the content but the format (which varies the words per page; a mass market paperback typically has 60% more pages than the standard paperback or hardbound edition but the same number of words).

It'd be easier to answer this if it was for word count rather than number of pages. As currently phrased, I can't answer the question.

message 70: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia depends on interest level of the book.

message 71: by Camille (new)

Camille I really depends for me. I could probably be really quick but I often take stretch breaks and snack breaks and 'omg-what-just-happened-i-need-to-prepare-my-brain-and-my-heart-for-this-next-part' breaks.

message 72: by Marissa (new)

Marissa 2.6 hours.

message 73: by Sydney (new)

Sydney It depends on how enjoyable the book is. If I really like the book, between 1-3 hours. If I'm not so keen on it, probably more like 6-9.

message 74: by Ashley (last edited Apr 11, 2014 02:20PM) (new)

Ashley I can't imagine having a single answer to this! Am I reading a fun novel or dense history? YA or 19th C. philosophy? English or German? If your answer is consistent across the board, my guess is that you should try out some more challenging texts that take longer. It feels good to have that type of reward. :) OR, you should relax with a quick beach read occasionally to let the mind recharge!

message 75: by Oziiriiz (new)

Oziiriiz . I'm about to try it...I'll back to you.

message 76: by Saara (new)

Saara Depends on the book and if the book is in Finnish (my native language)or in English. If I had to say something, then maybe 3-6 or 6-9 hours.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

Everything between an hour and a few months. Depends on my mood, how much I like the book, how much time I have...

message 78: by Maheesha (new)

Maheesha depends on the book ...

message 79: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent For an average adult novel, I read about a page a minute - which makes it pretty easy to calculate how long it will take me to finish a book. Sometimes it's a little less, sometimes more, but that's usually about right.

message 80: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Duong Depends. If I find the book really entertaining I'll read until I finish it. If I'm kind of interested in it, I'd get close to finishing it, but not quite. And it also depends on if I have homework or just a reading slump. But my average is 3-4 hours.

But I like to take time reading a book. I don't want to quickly read it and pick up another. I want to feel the book. Go through with it. Experience the book.

message 81: by Elena (new)

Elena it depends on how I like the book, but I just finished "Love, Rosie" in four and half hours. And this book have more than 520 pages :) I'm proud of myself :D

message 82: by Abeer (new)

Abeer i am such a slow reader because it is not my native language >>>>>>>>>>>>> i read 300 pages in three days or sometimes more >>>> but its OK just be hold

Marina Ingemar wrote: "I find it hard to concentrate for very long periods of time. Besides, I like stopping every so often to think about what I just read, the last scene."

Omg so true I do this withs all the books I thought it was just me haha

message 84: by laika (new)

laika 3-6.

Only if the book is interesting. If not, it'll take me around 9-12 because I'm so disinterested that I have to read the same line at least two times to finally get it.

Marina Kika wrote: "3-6.

Omg yes I done this multiple times

yh, when books are that boring, I get that bored...

message 87: by Danni (new)

Danni I read really fast, but it does depend on the book. Say, Gone Girl took longer than an average book because it was 500 word pages, which is more than normal. I read at 500-700 wpm and the average speed is 200 wpm, so that is an approximation. But if I really like a book I can read it without losing concentration or even sometimes read faster but if it is really slow and boring, or is a classic, with a different era of language it can take longer. I generally can read in big blocks and non-stop, but sometimes because of my vitamin B12 deficiencies if I focus too long on it I can actually fall asleep. Anyway, that's an approximation.

message 88: by Rita (new)

Rita WAY OVER 12 hours, it would take me a month. I'm a really slow reader !

message 89: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Hills - usually i can do 300 pages in 4 hours -

message 90: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Mathieu 1-3 hrs depending on the book,if I have no distractions from my kids,then,yes,3hrs max

message 91: by Jane (new)

Jane I know I read too fast but don't retain well. So often, if no one else is around, I read aloud. This slows me down and I can remember more.

message 92: by Li (last edited Sep 18, 2014 01:55AM) (new)

Li He I see that many respondents say that their reading speed is dependent on the type of books. I suppose that means they skim through some books without worrying about missing some details or messages in the writing?

English is foreign language to me and I make a point to look up in the dictionary every word that I do not know, and in this way, I can finish a 400 page thriller in a week. I'm hoping to improve my speed and am very interested to know not only how fast everyone reads, but also how you read - for example, if you are reading a detective story, can you retain enough information to enable you to organize and process the clues and build a reasonable case about "who-done-it"?

message 93: by Amelie✨ (new)

Amelie✨ .-. I clicked an hour or less by accident omg. I wish. I get easily side tracked/distracted so a couple hours at least

message 94: by Sarah (last edited Sep 24, 2014 07:26AM) (new)

Sarah Assuming I have no distractions, I could probably finish an average-sized novel in 3 hours, at best 2 hours- I'm pretty sure I've done it before. It really depends on how much I actually am invested in the book, though. A novel that's really got me hooked will be finished very quickly, but a boring one will take longer.

message 95: by Ratheesh (new)

Ratheesh Depends on book/author, usualy i takes 7 to 8 hrs for me to read a book.

message 96: by Iulia (new)

Iulia 3 hours only if the books is good.

message 97: by F.B. (new)

F.B. Completely depends on the book. Spacing, font, font size text.
Also if the book is interesting I'll read quicker.

message 98: by Brandon (new)

Brandon I used to read at about 180 to 210 pages in an hour, but I took a break from reading for fun to focus on college for about 3 to 4 years. Now, I have recently started up reading books I like again except my reading speed is now 120 pages in an hour.

message 99: by summer (new)

summer Usually but it depends on the book

message 100: by Grace (new)

Grace I finished the entire Harry potter series in two weeks with limited time... Is there something wrong with me?
