Candiss (I'm just reposting the information from the announcement in the Group Business folder regarding this, in case anyone happened upon the poll directly without following the link from that post.)

As you probably know, the discussion of the WARS OF LIGHT AND SHADOW series by Janny Wurts is coming to a close. (The discussions are still active, but the “official readings” have wound down.) Stefan brought up the topic of “What next?”, so we thought we’d bring the idea to the group to try to gauge general interest.

So, the question is: Would you be interested in beginning a new group series read some time in the near future?

Please keep in mind that this is NOT a call for series nominations, nor are we presently opening a dialogue here regarding series read format or any other particulars. We just want to gather a preliminary idea of how much basic interest there is within the group for a series read in general. The specifics – nominations and voting, discussion and debate of the pros & cons of various series as group reads, discussion format, schedule, and the like – will come later, assuming there is enough interest in doing another series read to even broach those topics. Let’s establish base-line interest first so we don’t confuse the issue, please.

The poll will stay open for a couple of full weeks, until midnight Monday, May 16th, to give everyone a chance to think it over and vote. Please feel free to comment in more detail here in the poll thread as to why you would or wouldn't be interested, but keep in mind that this is intended to gather very preliminary data, not to get down to the nitty gritty.

Thanks!

Ken I am down with it.
Both previous series are something I was interested in. I am way behind in both. I just started Memory in the Vorkosigan series and I do plan on reading Janny's series. I have the first book on my sooner TBR series. (I have several TBR piles)

Sandra Of course it depends on the series. :)

Definitely interested, even though I'm 3 books behind on Janny's series - once my little guy gets on somewhat of a regular sleeping schedule (I know, HAHAHAHAHAHHA) and I have my brain somewhat back, I'll finish!

But yes, I really like the idea of the group series reads, because it motivates me to pick up a series that I might otherwise skip just because I'm intimidated by the number of books.

Amelia While, I didn't comment too much in this group for Janny's series (I read ahead and then read other things), I found the discussion to be very insightful and enlighteining. I look forward to reading discussions on the other series alread discussed (Miles Vorksogian) once I read it.

I learn a lot from the group discussions.

So, here's my take as the person who got this entire thing started :) I'd be very happy to see another series discussion in the group, because the first two have been a great success - especially the current one thanks to Janny's efforts in leading the discussion.

There's also the main issue, if we end up having another series discussion--which, from the votes, is what it looks like right now: we'll need at least one person who can commit to reading the books following whatever schedule we decide on, posting some questions and generally keeping the discussion going. As moderators, Candiss and I will create the necessary folders, put the books on the group's shelf and so on, but I'm not sure if either of us will be able to read the books --- and from my experience, if there isn't a person who leads the discussion, it tends to fizzle out.

So, if and when we start taking nominations, we'll also need to see if anyone wants to commit to reading all the books and starting the discussions. There are a few series I've been wanting to read (or re-read), mainly because once in a while I need something fun and entertaining to read in between all the books I "have" to read. If one of those series ends up being our next group series, I may be able to lead the discussion, but if not we'd need to look for assistance.

Candiss Just a note: I sent a group broadcast over an hour ago re: this poll closing tonight at midnight. But it looks like Goodreads' broadcaster is broken again, as I haven't even gotten my own broadcast yet, so I'm posting a reply to this thread, hoping that people will get an update email if they have their subscriptions set up to notify them of posts in their groups. It's worth a shot, I suppose.

Sandra I got it, Candiss. I'm just puzzled as to why anyone would vote no. No one has to participate, after all.

How weird... I always get a notice of my own broadcasts within a few minutes of sending, but I still haven't gotten this one.

Oh no, I said that wrong. I meant I got the notice of your post here.. I didn't get the broadcast.

Ah, thanks. At least now I know Goodreads is messed up, not just my little corner of it. (I suppose that's worse, not better, eh?)

Sandra Usually if you go to GR Feedback you'll see someone already asking about the problem. If not then ask them. They're pretty responsive, usually.

message 13: by Diane (new)

Diane I'm looking forward to this as I have several series that I've never read, and several that I would not mind re-reading. Is this a project that is done only at a certain time of the year (such as during the winter months), or would it be starting sometime this summer?
