I used to read graphic novels when I was about his age but what I read is probably not appealing to boys. There was this graphic novel that seemed to be based on the film adaptation of despereaux, don't remember who wrote it.
The new KOTLC graphic novels and last kids on earth. Also, 'when stars are scattered' is a more powerful memoire one that I really liked that would also be appropriate for his age.
If he likes the Chosen there’s a version of it like that! They only have the first one physically right now but I read it and it’s really good :) pretty much season on in comic form!
hits at my house are always dog man and diary of a wimpy kid! a very niche hit is catstronauts its about cats in space and its very silly. if you want some real books, anything by Chris grabenstein are clean, middle grade MASTERPIECES (especially the smartest kid in the universe and the Mr. lemoncello's library series!)
There is The Wingfeather Saga (the first book) as a graphic novel. Also the I Survived series. That’s all I have for now
Maybe the book Another Kind by Cait May + Trevor Bream (I don’t think there’s any LGBTQ content in this graphic novel, but I’m not 100% sure)Or maybe Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen
Both books do have magic in them though.
Sorry it’s hard to recommend books when I’m not quite sure what kind of books you’re looking for.
Maybe Dragon Kingdom of Wrenly? I haven't read it but my 10 sister loves it and I think he would too!

The Wings of Fire books are pretty good, except as you get deeper into the series, a couple of the more recent books have mild (just mentioned) LGBTQ. :(
But the Warrior graphic novels are ok.
Captain Underpants, Dogman, 13 Story Treehouse, Kev& Trev are all clean, though are younger in general
