J~ I like to find books and authors that are not as well known. Often, they are deeper and richer novels which really make me think. Agree with Em’s comment. I do tend to read many of them since I hear so much about them, but wish many weren’t dumbed down trying not to offend anyone.
Ive read a mix this year of ¨Indies¨ And ¨best sellers¨ and as long as you don´t have dragons in your books or make people ¨sick¨ or ¨obsessed to the point where they´re hurting others¨ than I´ll read it but Iḿ not going to spend 30$ on a book EVER again. So please dont ask me to spend 30$ on your book.
The average best sellers has the reading level of between 4th and 5th grade. They are mostly watered down, highly palatable, potato chips for the masses with nothing new to say.
