I just simply base it off the scripture: “Women should learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result. But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.”1 Timothy 2:11-15 NLT

Why the flippity flop was I invited to this?? Now I’m just surrounded by misogyny excused by religion. Also @child why shouldn’t women teach men?? Most teachers are women.
Also yes women can be pastors, they can pray on a stage while talking about a religion just as well as a man could

First off, she said to keep this civil. This is not being civil and people are allowed to have their own opinions, especially when it comes to religion seeing as freedom of religion is in the foundation of our country.
I am going to say no, because the Bible says no. This is a massive Biblical issue that I have to say a lot of people have gotten wrong. Do I think women are amazing teachers and leaders? Absolutely!! I’m a woman myself and I have seen the impact we can have. They can teach Sunday school classes and church groups, but the role of pastor/elder/overseer is a role that is clearly specified to be for men in the Bible. I understand why people might disagree with this in our feminist culture, and when I was little I didn’t understand it either. But this is something God has said, so those who disagree are not disagreeing with other people. I believe they are disagreeing with God and His holy, infallible Word.
I believe women can hold certain postions like hospitality and womens group leads and stuff but not pastor. I think they can teach children but once the boys get to a certain age they should be taught and mentored by men. Idk if that made sense 😭

Bro literally said that women’s voices put you to sleep, which sounds a lot like a misogynistic insult in this context, I’m allowed to call people out for misogyny

in my church (i’m Catholic) men are the head of church as a representation of God (priests) and women are nuns, which they are viewed as “married to God”. so no, i don’t really believe that women should be priests or pastors as u said it.
I think the bible makes it super clear, when you look at the epistles of Paul, for instance, that women aren't to preach. there are specific verses that say that women are to be 'silent' in the church which DOESN'T mean shut up and do whatever the man says like some people think, but it DOES mean that they're not to take a position of authority over other adults. I really hate it when people take that and think it means that God and Christians are sexist and stuff, THEY ARE NOT, it's just that God made the world in a certain way, sometimes for reasons we don't understand, and we're to just follow Him.

Whoever wrote the “ Well, it depends on what you define as a pastor” write in is spot on. You see women in the bible talking to crowds, like the Samaritan women in John(and even that there are women’s names in the bible shows they did something big because women weren’t talked about). And idk about you but speaking the good news to a crowd of people is darn close to preaching. My thoughts(: I love that everyone is thinking about this and doing at least some research. Keep on keeping on in Jesus❤️
I'm a roman Catholic, And we have nuns, Priests and priests that are pastors of a church, no layman are Pastors in the first place in less their priests, I firmly believe that there shouldn't be girl priests because thats not how God intended it to be. He made Peter the rock of the church he didn't give that to a girl, theres just so many things in my religion and in the bible that is against it and I also agree with it. You can be a nun but I don't believe you should be a pastor. Now not being in y'alls denomination, or being Protestant I don't quite have a lot of opinions on it. But just in general I don't think so.
I think a woman can preach and share the gospel and sometimes preach to a church but I think that a woman should not be pastor because that is a man’s job and God told us that in the bible. Men are supposed to be the head of us and lead us to God but not controlling and like hit the woman and stuff!
I believe women can be pastors because I believe the Bible shows that God calls and equips both men and women for ministry. In Acts 2:17–18, God promises to pour out His Spirit on both sons and daughters, and in 1 Corinthians 12, spiritual gifts are distributed by the Holy Spirit. Scripture also gives us examples of women such as Deborah, Priscilla, Phoebe, and Junia serving in leadership and ministry.I understand that people often bring up 1 Timothy 2:12, and I don’t believe we should ignore difficult passages of Scripture. However, I believe we must study them in their original context and interpret them alongside the whole counsel of God’s Word. Paul himself acknowledged women who served and ministered in the early church.
Most importantly, this is not simply a modern opinion being imposed on the BibleThe Assemblies of God officially recognizes that God calls women to ministerial leadership, including pastoral ministry We believe the Holy Spirit gives gifts to women as well as men, and those gifts should be recognized and used for God’s gloryGod’s calling is not something we should dismiss simply because the person He calls is a woman. The Church needs every person God has gifted and called to serve. Our responsibility is to discern that calling biblically and faithfully, not automatically disqualify someone because of her gender
I personally believe God has called me to be a missionary and a pastor, and I don’t believe that’s wrong simply because I’m a woman. I believe Scripture shows that God uses both men and women in ministry and equips them with spiritual gifts to serve Him. I understand that people interpret certain verses differently, but I believe we should look at the whole of Scripture and recognize the women God has used throughout the Bible. My desire is to follow God’s calling on my life, share the gospel, lead others closer to Jesus, and serve Him wherever He leads me.

The devil can quote scripture for his purpose. The bible says many things Christians no longer follow including selling daughters into slavery and stoning our neighbors for transgressions. I am pretty sure most of the non-vegetarian people here eat bacon too...just saying.
I would not personally join a church that didn't consider women worthy. Mine does.
Sydney Smile ( SENIOR YEAR BABYYYY ) wrote: "I think the bible makes it super clear, when you look at the epistles of Paul, for instance, that women aren't to preach. there are specific verses that say that women are to be 'silent' in the chu..."im sorry but silent in the way of eg. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 definitely sounds like we need to shut up and it definitely sounds sexist
This poll wasn't really addressed to me, but I'm going to respond anyways (I'm sorry if that bothers you).I think it is pretty clear that there is misogyny in the Bible:
Ephesians 5:22-24 - wives should submit to their husbands
Corinthians 14:34-35 - women should remain silent in churches
1 Timothy 2:11-15 - prohibits women from teaching or having authority over men
Why are these verses problematic? Saying that women should submit to their husbands leads to inequality and a risk of abuse. The idea that women should be silent in churches denies women basic human rights and treats women as inferior. Restricting women from teaching or holding positions of authority strips away autonomy and forces women into passive roles just because of their sex.
If scientific evidence refutes the claim that women are naturally or biologically submissive, why does Christianity tell women that they are naturally submissive? If science shows that women have the same overall general intelligence as men, why are women prevented from sharing their views?
I can't reconcile this treatment of women with a loving God, so this is one of the many reasons why I am not a Christian.
I believe women should be in ministry, but I don't believe they should be the head of a church. (1 Timothy 2:12)

Exactly. Also do you mean 1 Timothy 2:11-15? There's only 6 chapters :)

Hey! I'll try to give my perspective on this.
First of all, the Bible teaches that men and women are 100% equal, but they have different roles in marriage and in the church. When you look at the Bible and Jesus' teachings, they are actually radically pro-women for that time period. In Jesus' times, women's testimony wasn't even legally admissable in court. Jesus regularly taught, talked with, and honored women, which was extremely counter-cultural.
As for the issue of women naturally desiring to be the head of a marriage, check out Genesis 3:16 (ESV). This desire is a direct result of the curse of sin on humanity, not how things would be in a perfect world.
And yes, you are right that women are strong, intelligent, and can have a huge impact on the Kingdom of God. Women are certainly not restricted from sharing their views, being in ministry, or building up the church in a myriad of ways. Read Proverbs 31 (ESV) for an excellent example of a strong, God-honoring woman. Colossians 3:19 and Ephesians 5:25 also highlight how a strong marriage is built on mutual respect and love.
Both men and women are equal and crucial for the building up of a church and the raising of a family. Men are better at some things than women, and women are better at some things than men. Recognizing that is not discounting women in any way. (1 Corinthians 11:11)

In the Old Testament, God chose Deborah as a judge and prophet over Israel.
In the New Testament, Jesus chose women to be the first witnesses of the resurrection, making them the "apostles to the apostles".
Paul explicitly affirms women in high leadership positions, he commends Phoebe as a deacon, Junia as an outstanding apostle, and Priscilla as a teacher who corrected Apollos.
And finally Galatians 3:28 firmly states that "there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus."
If God intended for women to avoid primary authority, He would not have repeatedly appointed them to these roles.
Also Genesis 3:16 "To the woman he said, 'I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.'""He shall rule over you" just sounds like and im sure has been used to justify the subjugation, lower social status, oppression and loss of autonomy for women in marriage and society.
And "I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children." has been weaponized to stigmatize medical pain relief (such as epidurals) or to frame women's physical suffering as a ongoing punishment and obligation rather than just human autonomy.
In the 16th and 19th centuries, the "curse of Eve" framework was frequently used by male physicians to justify control over how women gave birth and minimize women's own autonomy over their bodies.
This quote doesn't sound like it explains that "desire is a direct result of the curse of sin on humanity" it just sounds like a cruel thing said used for control.

That doesn't mean that's what the verses actually mean.
As for the Genesis verse, this is actually describing the way that sin has damaged marriages.
“Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.” I don't think this is saying that it's right of the man to rule over the woman. It's framing it as a sinful downfall of men, just as the desire to lead in the marriage is a sinful downfall of women. So no, this should not be used to control women in any way.
Men should lead the marriage with love and honor for his wife, and the woman should submit to her husband, not in a subservient way, but with a posture of respect and allowing him to take the role of leadership in the family. In an ideal marriage, the husband and wife work together and make decisions together, both respecting the opinions of the other.

Margaret Elisabeth, absolutely!
I don't think Women should be pastors. In 1 Timothy 2:11-12 Paul wrights "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." Now I'm not saying that women should not teach. Yes the Bible calls everyone to speak the word and live it out, but I do not think that I is a women's place to be the head of a church. that is (and was in the Bible times) the man's place to preach. the women is instructed to teach her children in all the ways of a Christian, (Not that men can't do that) but I think (and apparently the bible thinks) that tho women can teach, they should not be head of a church or over a man.
For those wondering why I invited them if they are not affected by this issue, the poll does say for my Christian friends. I did not have time to sort through every profile, so I assumed those who were not interested would just ignore.
Margaret Elisabeth wrote: "Samantha {miss seems pretty sad} wrote: "This poll wasn't really addressed to me, but I'm going to respond anyways (I'm sorry if that bothers you).I think it is pretty clear that there is misogyn..."
Thanks for your response!
I agree that there are passages of counter-culture such as Genesis 1:27 (men and women are made equal in the image of God) and Galatians 3:28 (Equal in Salvation), however the Bible also reinforces patriarchal frameworks. This to me negates any concepts of “feminism.”
I want to emphasize something you said: for that time period. The fact that the Bible generally reflects the views of the time period suggests to me that it was written by people during that time period without the influence of a higher spirit. Because if they were truly guided by a loving god, wouldn’t he have guided the people during that time period to treat all people equally instead of suggesting that women are subservient?
Your interpretation of Genesis 3:16 is interesting. If God is all-seeing, all-loving and all-knowing, then why would he create Eve and then put her in a situation where she is destined to fail and then punish her for making the mistake that he knew she was going to make and punishes all of humanity for her mistake. It just doesn’t make sense.
So, you are saying that women can participate in the church but only in certain ways that are “womanly?”
What things are men better at than women? Other than like physical strength?
In my religion (I’m a Catholic) I believe that women should not be priests ( or pastors for others). I agree with most of yall arguments about why women shouldn’t be. While I say this, I do believe women have a role in the church. I myself help teach third graders at my church and it’s the best. Ik to some this will sound very sexist but that’s just what I believe so please don’t come after me
MALY - ★ ! wrote: "Micah wrote: "no offence, women should be pastors. But their voice puts you to sleep."Fuck does that mean?"
Please don't come in here cussing and being defensive. She quite literally said to keep this civil. I will pray for you, my friend because getting defensive like that is NOT from God. Also, for the people asking why they got invited to this, she said she just sent it to all her friends, and said "for my Christian friends" no need to hate.
this is one topic that I will ALWAYS COMMENT ON!! So anyway, yes, absolutely, women can be pastors. This is something that really bothers me when people say they cannot, because they always point to a singular verse taken out of context in 2 Timothy: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet." Now, the purpose of this verse was the instruct Timothy how to run the church. At the time this verse was written, many women were worshiping idols and pagan religions. Paul did not want them preaching false, ungodly things in the church. He also had a woman named Priscilla who joined him in PREACHING and TEACHING during his journeys. Also consider this--when Jesus rose from the dead, the first person he revealed himself to was Mary Magdalene. Why would he ask a woman to proclaim the greatest news EVER if she was to remain silent? Think also of Deborah in judges, a great leader, or Esther, whose voice stopped people from being persecuted?
