DO NOT SUPPORT SIBYLLINE BY MELISSA DE LA CRUZ.
I’m an older teen and I picked Sibylline up because it was sitting on my local library’s new arrivals shelf. I also picked it up because it was written by Melissa de la Cruz and I haven’t read any reviews of this book… None of her books have ever disappointed me until this one.
This a Good Morning America Book Club pick and authors and publishers are letting young adult books have explicit scenes and a threesome?!?!!!! 12 and 13 year olds could be reading this… It was just sitting in the library in the young adult corner 😞 Like, did no one, not the editor or the publisher or proofreaders object to publishing this?? This was published by a pretty well-known publishing place. Shame on them for allowing this to get out into the world. Shame on the author for writing this kind of content in teen books.
This had so much potential if the inappropriate content was removed. The storyline was great; I would give the book 4 stars if not for the content. And it's also a duology... It’s not like this book can be taken back since it’s been released.
There could’ve been at least a warning and this, to me, should be categorized as new adult for mature readers. The characters were also 18 years old in university so why is this being categorized and advertised to teens??? I never would’ve thought I would find this kind of stuff in teen books and I’m utterly disgusted and disappointed right now 🤢
Just wanted to let ya'll know cause I don't want anyone to fall into the same trap as me. Apparently there has been a lot of controversy about this book (I had no idea) so please share this with your friends so they know not to support this.
Now I'm debating if I should tell the librarians to recategorize this book...

Omggg😭 Btww I read in your dreams (the 4th book of the when in rome book series) lately, and idk if it‘s labeled as ya but the other 3 books were and they were warnings at the beginning w chapters but they were also warnings at some other books from this series (I don‘t exactly remember which) and they didn‘t have smut in it but this one did and I didn‘t know and had to skip it😭 So skip this one if u don‘t read spice🫶🏼
I heard about this book and the controversy somewhere and i was just like "if the author wanted to include all this, why not just label it an 18+ dark romance? Why say it's YA?!"
Yes, you should absolutely talk to your library. They need to make sure those types of books are in the NA section. Also, I’ve seen many authors doing this where there’s no warning to the reader regarding certain content in their books, so we need to be careful.I recently DNF’d a book at 40% because it had very degrading content toward the female character, with no warning that this was going to be in the book. If I would have known, I would have never picked it up in the first place. I wasn’t the only one who was offended either; all of the negative reviews are talking about it and most people DNF the book at 40%.
Mind you, I’m an adult, but there are certain things that I’m just not okay with.
You should absolutely talk to your library, girl. This is so vile and diabolical, and should definitely be reported.Thank you for letting us know <3

I would tell the librarian and get it moved to a different section. Well, actually, I’d try and get it removed from the library altogether but we all know that’s not gonna happen…

Yeah I’m planning to. Though I doubt they’d remove it, it’ll probably get placed in the adult section but as long as it’s not the teen’s
I think it’s because young adult is also included categories such as 18+ and they expect readers to check the warnings and the back for the sign that says mature content and however younger kids these days do read smut and it’s popular though not ethically right to some
Wait a second--it is not at all recommended for 12 & 13 year olds. It is specifically "17 and up." Please look this up. 17 is the age of consent in Texas, New York, Colorado and several other states. So just so we have the correct facts and are not reacting to misinformation, this is not a book marketed to preteens at all.
PS: I didn't really like the book as it just isn't that well written. But I wanted to clear up the confusion because I have seen others objecting to the same thing. Our library has it in "Adult Fantasy" not YA. And the publishing company never recommended it for anyone under 17. If you don't like reading about the subject matter, that is totally fair--and I get it. But it is not technically mismarketed or misplaced. It has the book equivalent of a rated R rating, 17 and up.
