should i continue acotar?

for context, i've read the main trilogy and i liked it but didn't love it. mainly i loved the epic fantasy vibes and the expansive worldbuilding and the classic feel of a sjm book. while i liked some characters, i felt neutral towards most of the rest. plus, just my opinion, but i didn't like nesta and wasn't really that interested in her story, which is why i dnf'ed acosf. but w all the hype around the release of books 6, 7 and 8, i kinda want to join in the fun, esp since i heard there are more characters involved and it covers all of their stories too, not j nesta? what do you all think? pls comment your experience if you've read it! tysm <3

i've never read acotar so idk

briss I’ve never read acotar, so I can’t give you any specific feedback. But if the hype has sparked your interest, then give it a try! Just don’t force yourself, and don’t try to make yourself like it if you don’t. Happy reading! 🌷

Celia G I’ve never read acotar. My twin has though and from what she’s told me she was on the verge of dnfing every single book of the series bc it was often repetitive and lacked plot🤷🏼‍♀️

awh sorry she didn't like it! maybe she'd like throne of glass more?
personally, the plot was fine with me. it's the sjm magic i guess!

sera ۶ৎ (slump era) i would continue it! i was just like you and didn't like Nesta. i dnfd acosf 2 times before finishing it. but i would give it a try, because her character development is the best in all of the books

hmm i do love good character development arcs! i just really didn't like her behaviour till where i read (i think i dnf'ed around 35%?)

Vera⭐️ Honestly I read the first few books years so I can’t give you a full review. I just remember not liking the female lead a bit. Also I got tired cause the plot was getting too woven to keep up with at that time. I know I would one day want to continue from where I left off and finish the story. So yeah, you can take a break and continue when you’re in the right state of calm for the rest of the book.

same actually i read it 2 years ago and barely remember the exact details. awhh makes sense i hope you like it if you continue! hmm will keep that in mind <3

Maria I was like you and can't stand Nesta! But her story arc ended up being on of my favorites the second half of ACOSF! I know the beginning is rough to get through, but in my opinion the second half is much better!

But also, you could just read a reallllly good recap to catch up since the new books are supposedly a brand new story arc, so I'm not sure how heavily the info from ACOSF will matter!

omg really? that's promising! i'll even take understanding nesta over liking her at this point

ohhh i didn't know that! i've never skipped a book before, so i'll think abt it!

reagan I totally get how you feel. I think one of the reasons I love it so much is because I read it BEFORE TOG. If I read it after, TOG might have outshined it and made it less amazing comparatively. It was also my first true fantasy series so it has a special place in my heart. I would say read it, especially if you want to read Crescent City (big crossovers). And like you said, the fun of waiting for the next few books.

oh definitely! i would've dnf'ed it in the first book itself if i'd read it before tog lmao. awh that's nice! i do want to try crescent city too, i've heard a lot of good stuff abt it

Crescent City is really cool. Definitely a different vibe than the other two but I loved it! Have you read the Kindreds Curse series by penn Cole?

Yeah!! It’s unfinished which sucks but I liked it. It has a similar vibe of fae vs humans, except they are called descendeds. I’m not overly picky, I kinda like most books lol. The only thing I ever dnf was haunting Adeline lol

message 16: by Elaina (new)

Elaina Crooker-Robinson I am not a huge Nesta fan either. I loved all of the books though. In he story, you get to know why she is the way she is, and a begrudgingly started to like her. To be honest, I only read acosf because you had to read it to understand the third book of a different series she wrote.

message 17: by Sam (new)

Sam I liked the world-building aspect of the first book and I was neutral to a lot of the characters. Nesta wasn't my favorite, but she's not a HUGE part of the books. If that's your only worry I would say keep going! You should read for the vibes and if you ultimately don't like it then don't read it. I've DNF'd plenty of popular series because it just wasn't for me.

message 18: by Lea (new)

Lea Acosf is by far the weakest part in the series (and Nesta wasn‘t even my main issue).
That being said, I am glad to have finished the book simply because I wanna know how the story is going to end.

Maybe you can find a summary on YouTube as an alternative? That way you can follow the Plot of the next book without having read acosf.
