I honestly couldn’t care less, people can like the book series if they want to (no judgement, it’s dark romance after all, not for everyone). People can choose for themselves (please don’t come for me in the comments, I’m just naturally a fair person) (write-in)

Can’t they just write clean books?! with the same story why add explicit stuff??!
And this one doesn’t even have a decent storyline!!😒😒

Yeah it’s crazy but some people are just smut lovers which I’m not hating on but like still, I ask if they can at least keep it out of YA, I don’t want to be traumatizing my self😭

if you dont like smutty books just dont read them - some people enjoy them and thats okay

people read and write for enjoyment so if thats what they want to read/write i dont see why anyone has a problem - it doesnt affect you at all, no one is going to force you to read an explicit book

message 6: by Cinnidh (new)

Cinnidh If I want to read smut, I should have to SEARCH. Why is every single romance book smutty? WHY IS YA SMUTTY?!?!?!? IT’S MEANT FOR AGES 13+!!!!! 😤😠😡🤬👿💀

MTK(error detected: escaping reality) Ya isn't smutty....NA is....

✨ayla✨ {i hit the wall} I just want to say that while I don’t care about people reading smutty books or even reading Haunting Adeline, making this a movie could risk younger people having access to it and watching it without realizing what it’s about. It also romanticizes no consent and that’s not something that I think most people would not want to romanticize. Again, I don’t mind if you read the books and liked it. I’m not going to judge you for that. But when it comes to putting that content somewhere a child could very easily access it, that’s when it’s crossing a line and is honestly concerning.

Young people can have easily access to the book too without buying it. I mean, there's OceanPDF! And it's not like that the book doesn't have trigger warnings. Usually, movies with this content have trigger warnings too in the beginning. BUT AGAIN, speaking as someone with 3 underage siblings, if young people want to watch it/read it, they will do it no matter what. So, no one is crossing any line. If a kid watch this movie is his parents problem. They are to be blamed. What can we do? Because some kids aren't responsible, we are going to stop making ADULT movies? Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything personal with you and I haven't read the book yet, but one of my friends read it and loved it and I also know many people that this book helped. This is going to be a movie for adults. Not for children.

YA is not smutty. NA is. Smut starts from NA books and continues to adult books. Some books with smut are categorized as "YA" because they have so little "smut" that is not considered as smut anymore but as "low spice". And that is not happening like now. That was always happening. For example, the Shatter Me series. It is an old series and it has spice but it is YA.

People are writing clean books. But they also write spicy books and some people love those books. For example, me. I read smut when I am sad and it always makes me feel better. If you don't like the smut, just don't read smutty books. I don't understand this whole hate towards smutty books, and I don't mean books with sa like Haunting Adeline, but for books with both healthy relationships and spice in general.

You can just... not read these books? I'm not understanding the correlation between the movie and this comment.

message 18: by Paloma (new)

Paloma I don’t understand why people don’t want this book to be a movie. I am a SA victim myself that has read the first book and didn’t find anything out of the ordinary for a dark romance book. I feel like the people that are super against the book have not even read it. I can understand peoples opinions on the subject but I will not understand is how someone can judge others for what they read. I read my first dark romance book as a way to understand my dark feelings after being SA and found myself healing while reading dark romance books because I felt understood. Is there people are there who glorify dark romance? Yes! And I can see why that may be scary to others who do not understand or like dark themes but don’t humiliate or invalidate other peoples opinions. Horror movies exist yet I don’t see anyone saying scream movies are making MEN kill. Because it isn’t the authors responsibility of the actions MEN do that’s on MEN.

message 20: by Hannah (last edited 6 hours, 28 min ago) (new)

Hannah The Awkward I just want to say as multiple time SA survivor, I found these books healing. If you don’t like it, cool! Just don’t watch it or consume the content. The interesting thing about this is by making the decision to consume the content you are CONSENTING to it. No one will force you to watch it. If you choose not to consume the content then you are not consenting and therefore will not see it. There are multiple no-spice and fade to black romance options out there for books. Spicy books give people space to explore interests without risking themselves physically and emotionally to someone who may not have your best interest.

Lydia Sartzetaki AyeLikeBooks wrote: "When I found out they were making this book into a movie, I was appalled! Like, why are they making a movie about romanticizing r@pe!? 💀"

Because this is what dark romance. And because someone likes reading/watching this, that doesn't mean that they want it to happen in real life. The book is not romanticizing r@pe. The author is herself a SA survivor and she wrote these books in order to heal herself. After this, she thought that other women will find reading this book healing and she published it. There are a lot of women that found it healing indeed. So, according to you, those women are romanticizing this book and they are not okay... What are we even talking about?

✝️ Jordyn ✨ (Jesus' version) I feel REALLY BAD for whoever has to play Adelaide.

Dark romance. It has to do with dark themes as stalking/sa etc. It's not for everyone but a lot of sa survivors find this book healing.

𝓡𝓪𝓮 ✞ [‘til I collapse] It might be healing for some, but is entirely too innapropriate for a movie…

exactly bro no one would read if it wasn't a smutty book so like. also I read some of it from an ex friends copy the smut isn't even well written (and also just feels like I'm reading a crime ngl) so like.

Right! I don’t understand why people don’t understand that the movie is going to have trigger warnings the author has made that clear.

you could say that for any movie ever - should we just stop making movies for adults then? how is it putting movies where a child could easily access it when it will probs be rated 18 - how else can you limit what children watch, they wont be able to see it in the cinema so itll be up to parents to use their common sense and not allow them to watch it

so what if people wouldnt read it if it wasnt smutty? why is that a problem som people do just read for smut which is okay! also who made you the judge of how well written the spice may be, thats your opinion not an objective fact

MTK(error detected: escaping reality) While I defo agree with you Laila, common sense isn't all that common anymore. Parents have children and let them go feral. There are some that raise kids right, put ages restrictions, and block 18+ films.
Most do not. Like someone I know. This 7 year old in my family has a mother that RECOMMENDS him this 18+ sht and lets him watch it.
Haunting Adeline as a book- loved it, would read again tbh. Idc if anyone judges- but as a movie? No. Absolutely not.

Also, let's not forget about illegal movie websites kids use. My friends use that to watch 18+ stuff.

I'm not saying stop making 18+ movies as a whole. I'm saying we can't make haunting Adeline a movie.

MTK(error detected: escaping reality) Big question: is hunting Adeline worse?
If haunting Adeline is made, that will be made too.
And more of HD Carlton's books will be movies because if one gets loads of views, then movie producers will want to make more of her books films.

Lily (John 16:33) if you don't like it, just don't watch it... like if no one watches it, it'll just be a flop, but some people like it. also I don't think they'll cancel the movie because of a goodreads poll...

MTK(error detected: escaping reality) LMAO YEAH I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE THAT

MTK(error detected: escaping reality) Also the author said nothing is stopping her from making this movie btw

message 37: by Elle (new)

Elle This is heading into censorship territory which we don’t need to be doing. If you don’t like the subject matter or the book and it’s not for you that’s totally fine! Just like it’s totally fine if others do like it or find something healing in it. The movie is just another way for it to find its audience. If it’s not for you, don’t see it but we don’t need to be controlling the type of content other people who are not you consume.
