karouzaa ۶ৎ honestly i think both are the same but for me reading makes me remember scenes better, audiobooks make me less focused than reading

message 7: by Gwen (new)

Gwen Honestly as long as your actually listening to the audiobook your consuming the same words so to me it’s reading 100%

message 8: by Hayaa (new)

Hayaa I am Audiobook means (audio Yk with your ears💀😭) but to read you need either your eyes for those who can see or your hands for the blind. But don’t get me wrong audiobooks still immerse you into a story but in a different way. But lowkey in my Goodreads goal I want to read 60 books but them audiobooks better count or someones getting snipped. 😃

gia (new profile pic) it depends on how much effort youre putting in. if its just background noise, no. if youre thoroughly listening, yes.

౨ৎ˖ ࣪⊹ hanah ౨ৎ˖ ࣪⊹ I’m so passionate abt this, first of all audiobooks are so inclusive to people who either may not be able to read/hold a physical book due to blindness or any form disability, and plus audiobook listeners are still absorbing the same content and information and as along as one is able to digest the book/content the same someone who reads with their eyes does, why would it not count?

no i completely understand that!!

⪩༏⪨ aurelia ⪩༏⪨ I think audiobooks are still reading but it’s a completely different feeling to reading the book physically

message 13: by EnchantedEva (new)

EnchantedEva I’m conflicted on this? Because no it’s not reading. You’re not reading words. But it’s consuming the exact same content as what you would by actually reading, so I would still consider people who listen to audiobooks readers. I understand that not everyone has the time to sit down and read, and an audiobook is the best they can do. I don’t think we should take away the title of reader from them if they’re still consuming the same content as us, just in a different way

#ana lourdes ⸆ ⁸ (DAUGHTER FROM HELL) Depends on book and how the audiobook is made :)

message 15: by Jamie ✝️ (new)

Jamie ✝️ Marie I think it is bc you’re getting the same experience as everyone else. Plus, a lot of people are just too busy to sit down and read a book. 🤷‍♀️

message 16: by Fatima (new)

Fatima I don't think they're the same but audio books come in handy when you want to multi task like do your chores while listening to a book

⦻ reo mikage ⦻ Yes and furthermore I fully believe it’s ableist to say it’s not. Maybe it’s not “reading” in the same way as you read words on a page, but you’re still consuming the story and not everyone can read actual books (maybe they’re blind or dyslexic or some other thing that causes them to struggle with hardcopy books but if they’ve listened to the story they absolutely can still say they’ve read the book)

message 18: by Cece ✿ (new)

Cece ✿ I don’t think it’s reading because you’re not actually reading, you’re listening, I would count it as a way to consume books though and I would add it to book challenges/goals

message 19: by Aayat (new)

Aayat Bansal somewhat. depends on whether or not you're also reading.
Sometimes I use audiobooks but only when I can't be reading like if I'm in the gym or at a family dinner I don't have interest in

But apart from these situations, I actually read too.

+1

message 21: by Rotem⭐️ (new)

Rotem⭐️ I said no because technically it’s not reading lol, it’s listening. And listening to a book is a completely different cognitive process than reading a book. But it DOES NOT MEAN that audio book is not as good as reading. Both are great and great form of consuming literary media.

message 22: by Callie Rae (new)

Callie Rae it’s pretty much just the voice in your head coming through a device with maybe a different tone because someone else is reading it.

message 23: by La Ale (new)

La Ale I'm sorry, but I just can't do it
reading is so amazing exactly cuz it all happens in silence—inside my mind—and I can imagine everything exactly the way I want.
A narrator, no matter how good, influences the story, the intonation, and so on.

so no, for me, it’s not the same thing

message 24: by Gemma (new)

Gemma I feel like its smth where u can say ‘ive read that book” but cant say “im reading that rn” cause ur actually listening to it
