Sometimes I read the blurb, sometimes if it looks really sketchy I'll look it up on Goodreads and get the rating, but these days I often go in completely blind... don't even read the blurb or anything and just let it unfold as it unfolds. Sometimes it really sucks... but other times it's awesome because I've had the blurb give away important info about the book before and ruin it for me. This way it's all a surprise. I need more adventure in my life! 🙂 Hope this helps.

Anything might alert me .. a review .. a synop .. the subject or storyline .. covers are nice but I don’t buy books for covers .. if I know the writer is good counts the most .. and I just plunge in .. tbh no time to waste when there are so many other books out there clamoring for attention 💖💖💖
Mystic Faerie, are you me?! 😁 The blurb giving away important info is the WORST... I've been burned too many times. Chaos reading it is! 📚💜Mystic Faerie ✨️ wrote: "Sometimes I read the blurb, sometimes if it looks really sketchy I'll look it up on Goodreads and get the rating, but these days I often go in completely blind... don't even read the blurb or anyth..."
Reviews, mostly, but not always if a topic or author is of interest. I like to dive in and see where it goes. Sometimes not even past page two.
Murray, the 'just plunge in' energy... respect! 💜My TBR is nodding aggressively at the 'no time to waste' part though... it's a whole situation over there 😄🫣

I choose new reads either because the book is an established classic or because I’ve gotten a recommendation from a wise and trusted friend. Other than that I prefer to know nothing at all. For me surprise is the most important thing.😎
Karyn, I love it! 💜 Sometimes page two is all the answer you need ☺️Karyn wrote: "Reviews, mostly, but not always if a topic or author is of interest. I like to dive in and see where it goes. Sometimes not even past page two."
Mark, I envy you the wise and trusted friend for recommendations... that's a rare find! ☺️ And the surprise element, yes, I agree... half the magic is not knowing where it's going🤩Mark wrote: "I choose new reads either because the book is an established classic or because I’ve gotten a recommendation from a wise and trusted friend. I have a app on my phone it’s called daily decisions.. all my tbr is on there, I give it a spin and what book it lands on I read
I choose books by the authors. I hardly ever read blurbs and never read reviews. And I always check the first paragraph.
I will look at reviews, but if they are too detailed (total plot synopses or spoilers), I’ll skip them and only read brief ones. It’s safe to say that I want some info before going in, but not TOO much!
I’m a mood reader. After I read a book, depending on if it’s fiction or non-fiction(I read one of each every month), I’ll peruse my library or my kindle and select one. I reserve spooky season for August, September and October. I try not to look at reviews before because I don’t want to be disappointed. So no pre-read ritual for me.
Mark, I envy you the wise and trusted friend for recommendations... that's a rare find! ☺️ And the surprise element, yes, I agree... half the magic is not knowing where it's going🤩My thoughts are based solely on my ten year experience being here on goodreads.✌️
