I usually don’t participate in polls at all but this is something I can get behind

i really believe goodreads is supposed to be a bookloging/interaction app, and everyone's straying from this! nobody looks at howmany friends/followers ppl have on here i promise.

i wish people would go back to making friends organically and sending requests to people they have similar interests in and actually want to be friends with, instead of just asking for friends so the count is higher

I honestly believe some people do that to build followers here so they can establish an IG or TikTok account, so it's probably an easy start for them 🙈🤔

Exactlyyyyyy, no hate but about a half of my notifs are polls of people asking for friends, I just ignore them most of the time but it annoys me a lot

To each their own, but seeing multiple of them every day gets really repetitive. I feel like it takes away from the intentionality of Goodreads and building genuine connections. I’m all for making new friends, but I’d rather connect with people because we actually share similar reading tastes or interact with each other.

or those about wanting likes on their status update 😭 if i see it naturally on my feed, i would like it, but if you're making polls so that others like your status, what's the POINT????

I personally havent gotten many so idk but I know that other ppl are really annoyed

Honestly I’ve been getting a lot of polls and I’m getting a little annoyed. Like stalk your moots friends and add them😾

It kinda annoys me when random strangers start friending me. Like js bc it’s Goodreads girlie doesn’t mean there aren’t occasional creeps. And it makes me feel uncomfortable that people are so trusting with random strangers honestly. I totally understand the girlies out there who just want to make good friends that love the same books as they do. No hate on that.
But when it comes to people not having good discernment with random people online, and just wanting friends to have the achievement of having,” a lot of friends.” That gives me the ick.
Like just try to get to know people better before you post all your personal info in a club. Like your hair color, eye color, hobbies, sports, activities, state or country… bc I’m not trying to be that one paranoid girl, but I’m js trying to be honest with u and look out for you. The world isn’t what it once was. And there are lots of bad people out there who can use the internet to find personal information on people that they don’t need to know bc they creepy people and stalkers. So js be careful. And if you are, don’t tell yourself,” it wouldn’t happen to me. It’s such a small percentage of bad things happening online etc. etc.” please girlie js wake up and admit it’s real. Have more discernment , and don’t friend every person online js bc.

I just don't like how those polls are literally my only notifications and I get like 20+ in 10 minutes... if we have books/genres in common, idc if you want to friend request me, but being mass-invited by like every single person on the app a million times a day is getting super annoying.

omg right? Finally people who understand the annoyance of it. I literally have in my bio “don’t invite me to polls,” and I look in my notifications and there are DOZENS. It’s so annoying, and they are all about seeking more friends/followers

No because Goodreads Isnt a political ladder hello? It’s for books. You should make friends THROUGH books. Also, unlike other social apps, you literally gain absolutely NOTHING by having friends! Makes no sense, and there are a few CERTAIN PEOPLE who send polls regarding friend status multiple times per day. A few times is fine, just to let people find your account, but it is getting unbearable. 🫩🫩🫩

personally i don't mind them i think it's a great way for people to make new friends and there's always the option to comment on their polls as well to get to know more about them and their interests in books, instead of just instantly sending a friend request. i do however understand the point of view in which they could get annoying and repetitive especially if they aren't your preferred method of making friends. i am always happy for people to comment on someone's poll if i have invited them and they are getting sick and tired of receiving invites - all you have to do is write a respectful comment and i will make sure to make a note of your username so i don't invite you to them in the future as i know i always invite loads of friends in order to help people gain more 💘

How exactly does this “help the cause?” This is just one more annoying poll. The only way to stop getting polls is to remove the friends that send them to you. Which I just did btw. 👋🏻
