heyy guys, i just need to rant a bit… about goodreads 😭
why is it that goodreads (and booktok in general) mainly shows us the most anticipated releases that are already predicted to become the next booktok bestsellers? and why does the “new releases” page on goodreads feel like it only ever shows the same ten books? 😭 there are literally hundreds of books being published every month, yet it feels almost impossible to actually discover them!!
don’t get me wrong, i’m excited for many of those popular releases too. but there are books being published every single day, and it feels like no one ever talks about most of them.
and that honestly makes me a little sad. so many authors spend years writing their stories, only for them to disappear the moment they’re published because everyone is focused on the same handful of books. i’m sure there are countless amazing stories out there that never get the attention they deserve simply because they never make it onto people’s radar. and i don‘t feel like we should forget about authors just because they either don‘t promote their book(s) on social media as influencers, or are being pushed by booktok/goodreads.
so please help me out!! if you know of any upcoming releases that you’ve barely seen anyone mention (or that you think deserve so much more hype), let me know. i’d love to hear about the hidden gems that are getting overlooked 💌 i‘d also like to know if you agree with me

yesss i want to hear about more debut authors!! i can’t think of any debut books coming out soon that are coming out any time soon :( some not as talked about books i’m excited for are you’ll be the death of me by holly michelle, with all my haunted heart by isabel sterling, & matcha and matches by cara tanamachi! ◡̈

that’s why i look on netgalley and/or other arc websites bc ik there are good authors out there (probs debuting) looking to get their work out there !! like yeah sure reading popular books r fun but it gets to a point🥲 i recommend this way if you want to read more debut books (goodreads need to sort their collections out so badly)
omg yessss, we all already know about the popular authors why not give a little bit of that love to other authors who are not known!!! i unfortunatly don’t know any recs tho 🥲
I completely agree with you! I'm sick of hearing about the same books, over and over. Most of the time, IMHO, many of these books are over-hyped and aren't nearly as great as they're claimed to be.Some of the best books I've ever read and authors I've grown to love the most started out as Indie writers. Their work spread by word-of-mouth, mostly readers recommending them to other readers on platforms like Goodreads.
Goodreads (and platforms like them) should showcase a "What's New in Indie" category each month, giving these authors a voice and readers a chance to discover some of the gems they write.

ok well just some book recs that idk if u know... well when i was ypunger the darkest minds was my fav book idk if thats popular. also a book i red recently that is good if u like magical realizim is bone gap. and i will find somw more soon!!!
try using fantastic fiction, its a website that has every release coming out in a month based on genre! it also gives u recs based on books u like
