hey lovelies!! looking for a book rec <3
this is both hyper-specific and really vague, but I'm hoping you'll have suggestions. what are some books that just capture the essence of girlhood? like make you feel like anne of green gables when she said "how I love being a woman." it could be any genre, but preferably something that deals with the magic of female friendships, growth, and just life in general.
looking for something that'll make me feel really happy about femininity, even if it's in an emotional sort of way 🩷
thanks angels!!

i think 'leave and comeback' by lavanya lakshmi has the whole girlhood thing in her relationship with her best friend and cousin! lots of healing and fixing relationships! genuinely one of my favourite books ive ever read
I'm not sure the exact age you're wanting. Everything I know aboutLove by Dolly Alderton or The great alone by Kristen Hannah.
Well if you're looking for a ya book, Eliza from Scratch by Sophia Lee is a good pick. Also classics like The Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables and Little Women capture that quintessential childhood essence!
recently I read "Girl's Girl", which was released just earlier this month and to me really captured the essence of girlhood, the intricacies and details of it; bonus points: it's also sapphic! ♥
I honestly don’t know but I do know a song that could go into a playlist for the book that you choose.Just a girl by No Doubt.
Not sure if you’ve ever heard it but I love it and I think it would be perfect for the book.
I think my current read, Daughters of the Sun and Moon by Lisa See, is really going to shape up into a novel of this kind. It is definitely a tough read mentally as it deals with very heavy topics, but it grapples with what it really means to be a woman in the face of so much adversity and oppression. From what I can tell, these three women come together to find solace but also strength to survive within a society that feels as though will never accept them! I have a good feeling that this book will be amazing!
Judy Blume is a really good option specifically by her: the series best friends. It starts with “just as long as we are together” and it is a contemporary novel and is very realistic and relatable. I also heard that “the sisterhood of traveling pants” is good. I hope this is helpful, happy reading!
