So im look for a few recs, with a specific vibe, pls do help if you know any🥰
I want a cosy read, something that feels like sitting by a fireplace cuddled up (YES, im aware its nearly summer, but im craving Christmastime okay😭)
the vibe I want:
- Dark academia/ rivalry of some sort/ rival romantics/ bitter characters
- Regarding to the aforementioned point, I still want it to be cosy and heated but not superrr dark and sad.
- Boarding school, PLS NO forest setting
- No fantasy/ but im down for spells/magic/enchanted things but not too much okay😭
- Preferably set in England, and not in America (sorry)
- Set in a modern world and not when guillotines were still a thing
- If the book was a colour it would be a dark bruised purple. I can’t explain any further.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E Schwab is a really good book if you want rivalry b.w characters, love triangle (kinda) and a cozy-ish vibe
(write-in)
ill write in
The very secret society of irregular witches - not very heavy on the rivalry side but somewhat bitter characters that become close

I do see that you have Once Upon a Broken heart on your tbr, not exactly the vibe you're looking for here but has great rivalry/bitter characters, not too sad, fantasy but not over the top and set in its own country/timeline! It's a little bit more dark pink than purple vibe but would highly recommend :)

Maybe, If we were villains by Rio? If only there was an English translation, I wuold have suggested Nemesi: Montfort College by Anna Nicoletto 😢
Okay so I really wanna recommend Nocticadia cause the cover is purple (dw I COMPLETELY get what you mean) but I think it is set in America but it doesn’t really matter like they’re in a realm of its own.Or maybe even Gothikana!
I’d recommend checking all of Keri Lake’s stuff too!!
I’m so soooorryyy but i don’t really have read much of these types of bookss😭😭I invited friends tho<3
Not exactly what you’re looking for but Nocticadia has some of these elements and the cover is dark purple too !!
maybe the academy has boarding school and gossip girl kind of vibes aparently heartless hunter matches the vibe but is kind of sad definitely dark academia cold vibe not into dark romance but that might be it
A Deadly Education — by Naomi NovikAce of spades — by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
Hope you'll like these, and happy reading ✨
It is the no fantasy part that trips me up--I don't know how to do dark academia and no fantasy. Do you mean no high fantasy, urban fantasy only? Try Over My Head by Charles de Lint
Try One Word Kill by Mark Lawrence
Both of the above are award winning novels beginning award winning trilogies.
Ok so Where Sleeping Girls Lie is an amazing thrillerMystery set in a Boarding school in England.
It's not super cosy but its really really good I could not go anywhere without it ok itsss amazing
And any other books by Fridah are really good she's an amazing author you should def read it!
Where Sleeping Girls Lie is also about a girl who was once homeschooled but then ends up going to a boarding school after every member of her family has died and as soon as she arrives everything goes bad.
A Game of Cat and Witch by Ruby Rune. Okay there is a tiny bit of forest/woods but there is also sea? It’s set on a Welsh Island. Dark academia, cozy fireplaces, witches and shifters, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, etc etc. It’s dark, steamy, but also really sarcastic and funny. Set in modern day, phone/computers etc, and they’re at a boarding school for witches! I think it really fits the vibe you’re looking for 🙌🏼 it was a five star read for me ✨A Game of Cat and Witch
