Once you’ve picked a book, do you check out what other people are saying about it first, or do you steer clear of reviews so you can form your own opinion?

I normally don’t read reviews before I read a book. However I do read what the book is about beforehand

The only time I read reviews before reading a book is if I’ve heard lots of mixed reviews on it

I like to get a general idea because I’d rather not buy a book and then DNF it if it’s boring or bad lol
I will read a few reviews beforehand usually. I like to get an idea of what’s to come especially if I have heard mixed reviews on a novel. However there is also a lot of fun going into a read blindly so, I’ll do that too :)
I like to see how stars a book has before I read it. I don’t let that make up my mind and I don’t read any reviews until I finished. Some of my favorite books are rated lower.
I usually cross reference the average Amazon and Goodreads rating to make sure it’s not all one stars, etc. If I read anything it will be the short summary of the book but I rarely look at any real reviews until after I read the book. Sometimes I’ll check nothing and go into a book completely blind and many of those have been great surprises since I had no expectations!
Thanks so much for the write-in votes! I really appreciate everyone taking the time to share their thoughts and weigh in.
Hi, I don't fit in any of these choices because WHY I choose to read a book isn't always the same reason. Sometimes I choose a book based on it's cover coupled with if the blurb is interesting to me (I'm an artist so an eye-catching cover will always snag my attention!)Sometimes I read a few reviews, usually starting with the 1-stars beause I'm curious WHY they didn't like it, then switch around; sometimes I skip the reviews if it's an author I already like...yep, kinda all over the map here. I don't fit into just one category, nor would I want to, as I don't want to limit my reasons for choices.
You know, it's like a non-planned holiday where you take out a map, stick the cat's paw in yoghurt and let them walk around on the map, then take the journey, lol...or something akin to that!
(but I digress)
