Poll

Have you or someone you know ever made a New Years Resolution and actually stuck to it? Do you believe in New Years Resolutions?

I've always believed these things are silly and pointless. No one ever sticks to them.

If you're really serious about change or new goals, then you'll begin now, and not when the new year comes.

I do these every year! Sometimes I fail and sometimes I don't.

Werner If New Year's resolutions play a constructive role for some people, I don't knock them. For my own part, though, I try to live in as positive a way as I can all through the year, and to initiate changes for the better whenever I see that I should, without any real reference to the turning of the year. (When I was growing up, the idea of New Year's resolutions was never practiced in my family, and I don't recall ever personally conversing with anybody who talked about making them.)

My feelings and thoughts as well, Werner.

Tammie P ℓօรƭเɳαɓօօҡ Yes, I have in the past, and I know others who have stuck to them. Ironically, we didn't post about them on social media; we just 'locked in.' I think the intention is great. Disclaimer: January 1st does not have any special power to help people change.

Yes, if you’re truly serious about a goal, you should start pursuing it right away. However, in retrospect, the end of the year is a great time to assess where you are, where you want to be, and what you need to do to get there. It's a chance to look at what went wrong and how to fix it.

The problem is often that goals are either too ambitious (unrealistic) or vague. I find they should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. If you keep them small and realistic rather than trying to change your life overnight, you won't feel as pressured.

Personally, I haven’t made one in years. Sometimes I just go into a year saying 'I am just going to do my best,' and focus on being content and consistent with what’s already working.

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ Thank you guys, for your votes and perspectives! Very interesting!

Karen Hayes I think that for most people, the dark and cold months are the hardest time to try and form new habits - I like to give myself more grace in the winter, and try for hard things in the spring or fall :)
