I feel like this site is so poorly run. The web app is horrible, and doesn't match up to the web experience. If they are doing this to stop harassment and spam there are settings and options to hold it back like IG does. So getting rid of DMs is just plan lazy.

If Goodreads does this I'm gone! I mean I'm switching or ditching from the world of book websites.

Hmmm I’m also wondering why they’re shutting down DMs but maybe, just maybe, they’ll introduce a new chat feature. After all there have been some updates to the site, such as the introduction of challenges… maybe they’re refurbishing the site to be able to compete with other services in the future?

i think its ABSURD to remove dms but i know from my own experience that not everyone has a good one with it. i have been added multiple times by some man asking for my number, telling me im their princess and being absolutely disgusting. whats even worse is that goodreads makes them still able to see my profile after i removed and even blocked them. but they SHOULDNT remove texting, they just need to remove accounts that have like 5 read books and 10 on tbr, small bios but friend many people, especially woman, at once.

Maybe they'll delete it... to create a new one? I mean, I'll sign the petition, but let's be honest, it's not the best chat service either, lol. Maybe they want to add a new one, although I know I'm just being optimistic.

I am not surprised this is happening. I get hit on 2-3 times a week by "new friends" who message me 3-4 times and then want me to give them social media contact. Invariably, the begin to hit me on asking for money or hitting me up for a green card. Last week, one woman did this 3 times on 3 accounts. I just block them now when they ask for social media.
