I just keep moving arranging them til they look nice to me 🤭🤭🤭💕💕💕 Sometimes I also separate my most favorite from some of my lesssr loved ones, or unread. I might do it differently if I had more shelf space though, honestly 🤣🤭💕
I used to have it alphabetical by author, but to make sure you could see my series, I took all my big series out and lined them up, then put the standalones and other books on alphabetically from there
I do a combination of things. Generally speaking, I keep an author's books together, but there are exceptions to that. I do it somewhat by color (but not in the sense that all of the red books are together and all of the blue books are together, but more in a way that's symmetrical--will explain) and somewhat by size (the same concept applies here). I also have things kind of arranged by how special they are to me. So I have a shelf that's more or less my "absolute favorites" shelf. An example of what I mean in arranging by size is that the books on my shelves make a kind of U shape. Big, thick books on the far ends working towards shorter books in the middle. With the color, if I have a big dark book on one end of the shelf, I want a big dark book on the other end of the shelf; if the next book is light, I want the next book on the other side to be light too. I find the end result of all of this so aesthetically pleasing. There's a design and symmetry to it, but there's also a sort of freedom to the look as well because its not 100% precise. It also tends to happen that the outside books are more neutral colors while the middle are more brightly colored, so it ends up looking so cool with the framing.
Now that I've typed all this out, I feel like it's a little over the top to be relevant to this post, but... I guess I'll post in anyway 🤣

I do by genre and then by size! So I’ll have a fantasy section and do my talk hardcovers, normal hardcovers, tall paperbacks, small paperbacks, etc. The only time I break that pattern is for a collection of an author. So I’ll put ALL my holly jackson books together even though some are paperback and some hardcover. But that’s just what makes sense to me!
I do it someone is ascetically pleasing...I don't know how that would work for you bc. I have a small book shelf idk what you have.

I do it by color. (Beware my bookshelf is extremely puny rn) I do light girly pastel colored books on top and than darker books on the bottom😊
