Six of these authors already have a Newbery award book.

I've read Fire, Catching Fire, and the Magician's Elephant already. I've heard that Season of Gifts doesn't stand well alone (it's either part of a series or a companion novel).

So many books. So little time. Why are we reading only one book per month? If we are only choosing one, then I guess I'll choose Unfinished Angel. However, I think I'll try to get all of them.

Excellent. There are a lot of very good books here. I know I'm gonna try to read 'em.

I've also read Catching Fire and The Magician's Elephant already, and I wasn't a huge fan of Graceling, so I'm not chomping at the bit to get to Fire. I voted for Forest Born because Hale is an author I've always felt was just on the edge of something great, but never quite getting there.

I loved Catching Fire, but it is a young adult novel, thus a more likely contender for the Printz Award. I also think that Forest Born, Fire, and arguably Al Capone are also for the older age set.

I read The Magician's Elephant. It is good, but certainly not DiCamillo's best. I don't think this will be in the running for the Newbery.

So are we reading Forest Born for November? I look forward to reading this. I've started Goose Girl even though Forest Born should stand alone. I won't read the other two, possibly... Loved The Actor and The Housewife as well as Austenland, both by Shannon Hale.

Learned that Season of Gifts should be ok to read alone.

Next year I must start reading in January!!!

I actually bought Catching Fire and Hunger Games and there's no question they are YA but a number of Newberys have been YA in the past. On the other hand, they've been more crossover than Catching Fire. As far as the other titles, most of these titles are just coming in to my library system and I won't be able to read them until they arrive unless I go out and buy them, too. It's a consideration. I have everything on hold that is available but it's pretty dim in terms of availability. Sorry, this probably isn't the place to whine but the economy is killing us here in LA and I don't have a clue as to when these things will get here. Therefore my choices are limited for the November choice. I'll go back and visit the previous months.

I think a lot of libraries are suffering. I have yet to get Forest Born, or Fire from the library but I can borrow Fire. Waiting lists are long due to fewer books. Tough times.
