When you DNF a book, do you add it to your "read" shelf or a separate one?
I think about this whenever I DNF a book, like should it count towards my total read books even if I didn't finish it?

I don’t dnf very often (<10 books this year iirc) so my thoughts will probably differ from how others see it, but I add any and all books to my read shelf as long as I gave it a chance. My reasoning is, if I use my precious time to find a book and bore/traumatize myself to some extent, I should at least be able to count it for compensation 🤣 I make sure to never rate books that I dnf though (may make an exception if I come across one that’s especially horrendous hahaha 💀). I think counting a book if you’ve read over 50% of it is a reasonable middle because that’s already a good chunk of the story anyway, like reading a novella! But that’s just my two cents. Of course it’s a matter of personal preference in the end 😉

I put it on my "Read" shelf (mostly just because I only have the 3 primary shelves of read/want to read/currently reading) and then it also goes on my DNF shelf. BUT, I remove the "date read" at the bottom of the review so that it won't count towards my yearly reading goal, if that makes sense?
Such a good question! And I've thought about this a lot too! Unless I know I'll love a book, I usually don't even add a book to my currently reading until I'm 40% in because it's probably past the DNF boundary 😅 but I think if you've read like 50% or more then there's no harm in adding it to your 'read' shelf
There was only one book I dnf'd that I added to my read shelf, and that was for a couple reasons. I had already read more than half of the book, but it was starting to trigger me and I just couldn't read any more. It was also the third book in a trilogy. Since I had already read up to that point, I didn't think it was fair to myself to not count it towards my 'read' books, just because the plot was taking a turn I did not like and couldn't push myself to read.I personally like having my separate dnf shelf, if only so I can keep track of those books separately. But I'm all for people doing whatever is best for them or feels right to them.
