Rod Come on Goldsmith!

Fiona I second that!

Janet Smith I loved Tom Jones, but it's been a good 30 years since I last read it.

Reading The Vicar of Wakefield once was more than sufficient.
If you're interested in what I really thought of this novel, here's my blog post: https://janegs.blogspot.com/search/la...

Tim Regan They all look fun, but TL&OoTS and Robinson Crusoe are both already on my 'To Read' list.

I loved Tom Jones too but have never read Wakefield and it's been on my 'To Read' list for about 30 years...

Angela Beard Tom Jones. A classic I have still to read.

message 7: by Ali (new)

Ali Safwan I already have Robinson Crusoe but never got around to reading it, let's go with that hahaha!

Just a warning, that some 18th century novels are bawdy - especially The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling! That one is also very long, at over 300,000 words (the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy is just over 400,000).

It's in the lead at the moment, so this is just case anyone want to change their vote ... I think they all look fun, but quite a bit different from Victorian propriety!

Sara The Smollett might explain Dickens' obsession with the sea. I'm quite interested in reading it. Doesn't look like it has a chance here, but I am putting it on my TBR short-list.

message 10: by E.H. Alger (new)

E.H. Alger I’ve read three of them, so that just leaves Robinson Crusoe and Tristram Shandy. I’ve wanted to read the latter for years, so that’s my vote!

I want to read all of them too, but always seem to choose 19th century works!

Plenty of time left, so make sure you get your vote in :)
