Both Gothic and Lovecraftian horror works well for me because, while being mostly on the preternatural side of things, it still has subtlety and psychological components.
Gothic horror reads better, in my experience, because original Lovecraft can be somewhat clunky.

I don't really read horror that much but when I do I like a good pychological one to make me think :)

I like both psychological like Ruth Ware and Simone St. James but gothic has always really appealed to me. I even read a little bit of Lovecraftian.

Is The Silent Patient psychological horror? It was very good.

Slow build, slow burn, character centric

I dont like horror movies which makes me not like horror books
