Jessica Ferguson I love reading during the winter—on cold days in front of a fire. And though I can write any place any time, I like to plan projects to start at the first of the year. This year I broke 2019 down in thirds with specific goals. Did well the first three months then life got in the way. 😐 At the end of this month I hope to revisit my goals. Might have to do some tweaking. 😉

Tweaking is perfectly acceptable. :D

message 3: by Madeline (new)

Madeline Mora-Summonte I pretty much read and write throughout the year, no matter the season, but I LOVE the spirit of National Novel Writing Month in November so I voted for Autumn. :)

message 4: by Juneta (new)

Juneta Key I write all year round really and find inspiration wherever I can. Not sure how the season inspires except maybe holiday seasons, e.g. Halloween, Valentine, April Fool, St. Paddy, Christmas, Thanksgiving... I do tend to plan more in spring for writing (first of year) and read more in autumn/winter. And I do April, July and November NaNoWriMo so....

message 5: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass I read and write all year, but summer is a time for more reading in a tent on lazy afternoons, and not much writing. I chose fall because I do tend to pull some excitement about writing from the whole NaNo thing.

Truth is, I mostly haven't been living with seasons. Only with school years, and now that's done too (but now we'll have something more like seasons. Summer here should inspire me to read and write more, because it's too hot to go out, but mostly it inspires me to play computer games and nap).

Blue Moon-Shepherd I read and write constantly; and different seasons call me to different books. I suppose - if I must choose one - it would be Autumn; a time of rest and renewal. Spring is a close second...another chance...beginning anew.

message 7: by Roland (new)

Roland Clarke I voted for Autumn due to the impetus from NaNoWriMo, although IWSG and WEP keep me inspired throughout the year.

message 8: by Naughty (new)

Naughty Autumn and winter. I have horrific spring depression, and I tend to have a lot of extracurricular activities which take me away from my normal schedule in the summer.

message 9: by Ronel (new)

Ronel Janse van Vuuren It's surprising that this year, I'm getting more work done during the winter. I've read more, I've worked on more writing projects, and I've even done more blogging despite the cold and my best imitation of a hibernating bear. LOL. Usually Spring and Autumn are my most productive months. We'll see if it holds true for Spring once it arrives in a couple of weeks ;-)

message 10: by Karen (new)

Karen This is hard to answer. I set goals for the new year (winter) and get motivated to work harder. I set goals around my birthday (spring) and get motivated to work harder. I set goals at back to school time (Fall) because at heart, I'm a student and that's just what one does. So I guess the only time of year when I don't work at motivating myself is summer. But, the past two summers, I've been working on the ends of projects. Last year at the time, I completed my work on book 1. I'm thinking of pulling it out and trying to add 7000 words to it to bring it to the word count a publisher wants), and this year, I'm reading through my revision of book 2 to see if I need to revise it again, or head into editing - meaning the book could be done before the end of the year (or not) which is motivating.

message 11: by Ken (new)

Ken Rahmoeller I write fantasy with magic and there's nothing like writing those kinds of stories during the fall, with its shorter days, mysterious smells and feels, and Halloween.

message 12: by Toi (new)

Toi Thomas When I used to be a teacher I got most of my reading done in the summer when I had the most time off. Honestly, though, I enjoy reading year-round. I have special rituals for all types of weather. On cold days, I shrowd myself in a blanket and read like a kid in a tent. On windy days, I sit near a window and use the wind as background or white noise. On hot days, I lean more towards sipping something cool while listening to an audiobook. I find rainy days more distracting, so those are the days I read picture books or graphic novels. Like Karen, I set reading goals at different times of the year, such as a readathon I do every February.

Next to reading, computer games and naps are on the top of my list.

Me too: reading, naps, writing, naps, and gaming. ;-)

message 15: by Steven (new)

Steven Streeter I tend to read more in Autumn, but I write all year long, maybe more in the summer. Sitting on the beach after Christmas, pad and pencil in hand, writing away.

I write more and faster in summer, but I spend more time writing in winter. I write least in autumn, but, as I said, I tend to read then. Spring there's nothing hard and fast.

But, really, I write all year long, and write a lot more than I read nowadays.

J. Dorner NaNoWriMo is in November, which I'm pretty sure is autumn, so that's my vote!

I love that you just simply revisit and adjust! Great attitude to have with your writing!

Max I love Fall for many, many reasons. But nothing beats writing outside, in 50 degree weather, with a cup of hot apple cider, the rustling of fallen leaves in the wind. Even now, I can almost smell the air and feel the crispness of the air in my lungs! 🙂

Unless you're Down Under, as Steven clearly is!

Don't be sorry. Be glad you are experiencing cool weather right now, unlike we poor sods in most of the US.
