message 1: by Karen (new)

Karen I went way over on mine this year, so am upping it in 2017. See how it goes.

message 2: by Bec (new)

Bec I always set my goal at 60 books - and always beat it. But given I work full time and have 2 young kids I don't want to up it, in case I just can't get more than that.

message 3: by Jody (new)

Jody Going for 75 again! I have gone over the past two years but I'm m still reluctant to increase it just in case.

message 4: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Chen Going for 60 this year! I know that I will probably do a lot more than that just because my TBR is full of those wonderful 20-30 page graphic novel speedreads (Lumberjacks, all 33 volumes, are on my TBR this year and I plan to tackle them all in 2017). I usually read about 50 but I can probably get at least 75 just because of those speedreads. I've also gotten really into poetry and such.

message 5: by J (new)

J Austill I'm still going for 52. I might have overshot that the last two years, but I'd hate to jinx it with added pressure.

message 6: by Nathanael (new)

Nathanael Hoeft First year here, just joined today. 2015 I hit 29, 2016 in almost at 47. So I think the 52 is attainable, I'm excited for the weekly suggestions, they sound fun and will make me read outside of my wheelhouse. I was already going to read The Underground Railroad for the first week (it was recommended by John Green).

message 7: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Martin ok totally new here. I want to join this challenge for myself to push myself. Also to discover new books. Does anyone have a list of books that they have planned for the weeks already? I am sure a lot of books fit several weeks category. What do you do then? Just one for each? CONFUSED!!

message 8: by Melody (new)

Melody I will be lucky if I can complete a book each week with me taking four honors classes this school year.

message 9: by Kris (new)

Kris These past 2 years I have had the goal at 30 but I want to up it to 40 and if I finish that in a reasonable amount of time then up to 45 or 50

J Austill Victoria wrote: "Does anyone have a list of books that they have planned for the weeks already?"

A lot of people have lists, at this point. They have their own category called '2017 Plans' on the main page. To get to the main page simply click the title: 'Around the Year in 52 Books' at the top of the page and then scroll down to the 2017 Plans section.

Or click this:

Victoria wrote: " I am sure a lot of books fit several weeks category. What do you do then? Just one for each? CONFUSED!! "

The whole thing is quite liberal and each person defines their own rules to their challenge. That said, most people read 1 book per week for the challenge (or whatever that week requires). There is at least one person that I have seen who reads multiple books that fit each category and another who reads the full 52 in Novels and then the full 52 in Graphic Novels/Manga.

It really depends on how big you want your goal to be.

message 11: by Zaz (new)

Zaz I'm at 300+ this year (counting the short reads) and at 150 for the novels. For 2017, it'll be 217 "books" and I'll probably be way over it.

message 12: by Sam (new)

Sam I'm nearly to 50 books this year (from when I joined and reviewed in October to December), so I'll target 125 total for next year, to give myself some wiggle room. With the 52 for the challenge, plus room to pick up other stuff, should be achievable.

message 13: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Since I read more than 100 this year I'm tempted to set my goal at 100, but considering 2017 is going to be very busy (I'm moving to New Zealand), I don't want to over-challenge myself, so I'm sticking with 75.

Ginger (Sproutygamer) I had 52 for this year originally but I had to up it and my total as of today is 106 and there were 2 months I read nothing. So I am definitely doing over 100 this year.

Lucky girl! Happy moving! If I were to move anywhere in the world, NZ would be the place.

message 16: by MJ (new)

MJ I am a student again, so I think that finishing this year's challenge of 52 books is going to be hard. I'll be super happy if I manage 40 this year!

message 17: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Summers I decided on the 52 books this year to coincide with the challenge. It will be achievable if I can make myself continue books, I'm easily distracted. For a book lover I'm a terrible reader lately

message 18: by Jody (new)

Jody I decided to up my total to 100, as that's what I've set my personal challenge to - but, that includes new picture books and short stories so I feel fairly confident of hitting it. I'd like to get to at least 75 novels again (last year I read just over). Fingers crossed!

message 19: by Ann (new)

Ann I always set it at 52 and have fallen short each year, but I'm committed this year to finishing what I've started, in more areas than one. Finishing one per week will be a priority!

message 20: by Anna (last edited Jan 02, 2017 01:39PM) (new)

Anna the first year i joined in october/september so i did the math based on the books i read during those few months to set a goal for 2016, which was 78, and went wayyy over. i want to read more books than i did last year and next school year i get two spares so it's over 100 for me. it should be doable even though i don't count short stories.

message 21: by Francesca (new)

Francesca I've currently only set it at 25 books but if I end up doing well then I'll probably up it later in the year.

Jenna ✨DNF Queen✨Here, Sometimes... I always read enough... I just don't always document that I've read them! Trying to get my act together that way! I have to go back through my TBR and mark "read" all the books I've actually read, its shameful!

message 23: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Audiogirl.booking.it I set my personal goal at 101! Last year I set it for 100 and did 113! So hopeful I will have time to stick with it this year too... I feel like I am more and more into books and less into binging Netflix... I still watch some tv but not like I used to in years past.

message 24: by Eunice (new)

Eunice I've set mine at 100 because I think I can handle reading at least 8-9 books a month. I was able to do 28 from the months October to December last year (that's when I started the reading challenge) so I think I'll do good with 100 for the whole year.

message 25: by Laura (new)

Laura I've set mine at 210. Not that I don't have work to do but still I think I can make it if I combine big novels with small ones. I'll just give it a try and see how it goes.

message 26: by Aidan (new)

Aidan I've always wanted to read 100 books in a year. I am finally on a normal schedule to where I can achieve that. My boyfriend promised to take me to Paris if I reached my goal, so I'm extra determined!
