All of the above. Lately I've been trying to only add books when I've gotten them to a certain point. Otherwise the guilt REALLY piles on.
Once again, you don't have enough choices available. I chose all of the above, but I don't do progress updates and sometimes don't add a book till I've finished it.
I'm with you, Chris and Sarah; I'm completely addicted to Goodreads. If I don't get onto my Goodreads account at least a couple times a day, something just doesn't feel right! :-)
100% all of the above and then some. There are other things I do on GR that weren't on the list of choices, such as: checking in on my favorite authors and seeing if there are updates to their personal blogs or news about their latest releases; group and buddy reads; finding links to books that are free or on sale; taking quizzes and making lists; just generally participating in threads with friends, etc. I could go on because there is a lot to do here! I love GR more than any other social media site. <3
All of the above... Goodreads is my go to site for anything books. Discover new authors and to keep my collection in order, especially because nothing else is. :-P
This poll was kinda glitchy for me. I voted on it like 10 times and it only just now put my answer through...
I'm kind of a Goodreads addict so, mostly all of the above...though I don't update my progress while reading a book anymore, except when I take a break to start a new one.
I usually add books to my Currently Reading shelf when I start them, and always rate/review when I finish one - but I don't use GR to find books (at least not the recommendations or ads or sponsored ads that are disguised as recommendations) and sometimes I update my progress, and sometimes I don't.
Almost all of the above would be more accurate. I add books when I start them, mark them when finished, and search Goodreads for new books, but I rarely update with my progress on a book.
This poll was glitchy and wouldn't let me vote until I went to the actual link rather than the poll on the side of the main desktop screen, anyone know why?
I don't always to page updates, but I *almost* always add a book to my currently reading shelf when I start it.
All of the above. I'd get a lot more reading done if I didn't spend so much time on Goodreads. LOL just love this site and the people I've had contact with on it.
I don't always update my progress regularly, but I do sometimes, and I do all the other things, so all of the above.
Couldn't vote all of the above, but I'm pretty diligent about marking both the start and completion of books (then adding a star rating). But I virtually never bother updating my progress between those two points. And I find the suggestion engine here to be wonky enough I don't bother trying it to find new material; though I'll certainly note when my friends shelve books that look interesting.
I do it all. Most of the time I add the book to my currently reading and I update the progress when I'm reading with status updates. Sometimes/ocassionally I will read the book and just add it to my read shelf. and etc. I' m on this site pretty often. =))
Dang - this is not a multiple choice poll.I use my Goodreads for when I finish reading a book, and for when I am looking for books to add to my Want to Read library.
I come to Good reads often. When I start a book and when I am finished to rate and review. I also like keeping up with my friends and what they are reading and to see their reviews and if its a choice I might also enjoy*S* THANK YOU!
I chose 'all of the above' but really I tend to add a book when I get to page 15 (or 50, for longer books), although that's often in my first sitting with it anyway; I only occasionally update progress as I read; and I don't often use Goodreads to look for new books specifically, just to keep track of ones I have come across elsewhere. And sometimes I find new ones via Goodreads in one of those processes. . .
Some of the above - I mark it as currently reading when I start it, and come back to rate/review at the end, but I never update my progress while reading. I voted at the "rate/review" stage since I always do that, and only about 90% of the time mark them as currently reading (it's a lot easier now that I have a a Kindle that has Goodreads integrated already so it asks if I want to mark it as soon as I start a new one!).
Goodreads has really helped me get back my passion for reading with the challenge also helping me maintain a good steady momentum. I often visit the site just to read about books and author. Searching the site gives me the same joy I use to get from being in a library gazing at the shelves.
All of the above! I use Goodreads as my reading log/journal, which I HAVE to have as my mother was a librarian! My love of reading came from her.
All of the above! This site us great for following my passion of reading. I find new really good books everyday to read and from following others on this book club site. My favorite!
I have it up while I'm reading so I remember to update when I'm finished reading for that time period.
I am not addicted even though this site is really interesting especially when i am searching new books to read.Thriller and mistery are my piece of cake.
I am not a native english speaker or in this case reader so i need my time to complete my reading.
Anyone has suggestion ? I do prefer not too complicated writers but enhance my language learning is a good proof.
Thanks in advance.
Had to vote All of the Above although I don't do status updates. I use goodreads for the other options and to keep up with the various groups/challenges I have joined.
I tried to add a book while reading but could never figure out how to move it, so now I just wait until I finish it and add the book and review then.
Picked "all of the above", though I don't usually come to GR to seek new authors and/or books to read.
Not enough options - needs to be "choose what works" because I use it to find something new and when I've finished something.
Agree with not enough options. Perhaps allow for multiple selection.I use goodreads as a todolist for reading. When i need the next book, i come here, rate the one i just read and pick the next to read.
Sometimes people give up on a bad book - there should be a suspended shelf as well besides, 'currently reading', 'to read' and 'read'.
Ravi wrote: "Sometimes people give up on a bad book - there should be a suspended shelf as well besides, 'currently reading', 'to read' and 'read'."I agree with you on that. Although it's rare for me to give up on a book (especially if I've paid full price for it) it does happen on occasion, and I'd like to have a separate status for those few books that I just couldn't get through. I'd also love a "re-reading" status. There are those books that I like to read every couple years and I think they deserve their own category. So, "currently reading", "to read", "read", "suspended", and "re-reading" is how I'd like to have it.
I chose all of the above, but it's really only A, B, & C... I have so many books already on my "To Read" pile that I don't have time to browse for new selections... Even my To Read list on goodreads is out of date/not very useful... I sort of used that as a "Oh that sounds interesting. I don't want to forget that book exists"
I don't review/comment much on books I've read because I normally update my progress every time I finish reading what ever number of pages I happened to have read at the time using the app on my phone. The size of the screen limits very much what I can say & I find it very difficult to post anything of more than a few words of length as it also takes such a long time typing out on the phone one letter at a time (even if you do the same on the computer!)
As I read mostly in bad while waiting for my wife to wake up in the morning I find I don't have the time either.
It's pretty much all of the above except the regularly updating my progress in a book. I don't really like doing that.

I'm kind of addicted to this site ha ha :).
