Technology issues trying to update books from want to read to read and finished. It doesn't take often and my list is not up to date.
Not being able to tell which books have been read and which have been added as want to read in the goodread notifications I get.
My favorite thing in the Goodreads newsletter is the poem. I only skim the rest unless something really catches my eye.
I miss the foreign book section that was previously included in the news letter. It was a very good resource for books not commonly seen in popular book reviews.
I feel like the newsletter, like Goodreads in general, is so fiction-centric. I know that's more popular here than non-fiction, but we non-fiction readers do still exist! :)
Linda wrote: "I miss the foreign book section that was previously included in the news letter. It was a very good resource for books not commonly seen in popular book reviews."I agree with this! Even if it were a separate newsletter, I would love to have that back. Some type of multilingual and world literature newsletter. I'd sign up for and forward that around in a heartbeat.
I agree with Sharon; I read so many I can't recall just what one I am reading now. Too much trouble to get author and title, etc. And more nonfiction is important.
It's a shame so many are voting against the Poetry Contest. There have been some really good ones and I enjoy reading them.
If I had to choose something it would be the update to the book I'm currently reading. It seems unnecessary only because I already know that info. Maybe instead put the most popular book of the month on the "currently reading" shelf for goodreads members as a whole?

The idea of replacing that with the most popular book or something is a good idea.

I would like the current newsletter to appear on the opening page when I sign into the Goodreads app.
The Update to the book is not my thing. Who cares? Really?! I feel that is unnecessary to the newsletter.I enjoy the poetry. And what about non-fiction selections?
I agree with many of the posters above....Update to currently reading. I don't use this feature often, and usually, those books are ones I have set aside in favor of something else.
As with others, my least favourite is the update to currently reading....I KNOW what I'm reading thank you, to be constantly asked to update it is annoying to say the least.
My least favorite is that I don't have the option to have it show up when I click into Goodreads along with updates on what my friends are reading. I like to refer back to the Newsletters sometimes and it's hard to find it unless I go through the emails. I'd love to see it on my homepage.
the update the book feature. Who is keeping track and who really cares? I enjoy the poetry and yes I would love to see a foreign book recommendations as well.
'Update my reading progress' & polls. In general (not just newsletter) pretty focused on female fiction; I'd love to see more attention to history, memoir, etc. (non-fiction). I agree with others--access to newsletter on homepage would be nice.
I think this is too subjective to be true. Each person has preferences to types of books, format of books, poetry or not...How can anyone pick the BEST book for all of us???
My least favorite about the Monthly Newsletter? That I no longer have a list of newly published works by my "most read authors". How can anyone decide what is the BEST book for anyone when they do not take into account almost 1000 previously read books? It is especially irksome when I have already purchased, read and rated the book.
Mom wrote: "Technology issues trying to update books from want to read to read and finished. It doesn't take often and my list is not up to date."Ditto, Mom. And half the time, GR doesn't even HAVE the cover artwork that matches ther particular copy I have... .
Ashley: What about those of us who read BOTH?
Noreene: I keep a notebook page with one or two words from the title and I keep a running update on each book. The page changes daily. I mean a REAL paper page btw... . I routinely have more than 10 books going at once.
En: Ditto.
Mom wrote: "Technology issues trying to update books from want to read to read and finished. It doesn't take often and my list is not up to date."I've also had this problem.
My least favorite part is the way it appears on my computer screen. It is all crowded up on the left side. What's up with that?
I agree with a lot of the postings above..*Updating book feature isn't useful.
*Monthly newsletter to be posted on Home page.
*Listing of new releases for "most read authors/followings"
*Listing of ALL book genres and new releases
*Book of the Month should pertain to what ALL readers are reading, not just a selected few
I have my favorite genres I love to read, but I like to have access to all genres that I might take an interest in.
Who decides what book is the "best book of the month"? I disagree with the selection most of the time. Many authors you seem to love are writers whose work I dislike.
I also agree that the foreign book section should be restored. A great many of the books I read are not American, nor would I want them to be. In addition, I dislike being asked where I am in a book and agree with a previous reader in that I am usually reading about 5 books at a time and swietching between them. Some I read all the way through, and some I read in chunks, as it pleases me. I usually switch among detectives, philosophy, history and politics. Most "modern fiction" bores me except for detectives. Some of the best writing today is to be found in that genre.
I voted for the poetry contest but seeing how many votes it had I feel bad. I don't hate it, it's just slightly less interesting than the rest, since it's not about books.
I find that being asked to report on how many pages have been read is not what the joy of reading is all about. We aren't in grade school trying to get a gold star for reading fastest. In the same vein, being asked to report how many books one has read over a certain period of time is also a complete departure from what reading means to many readers - they (and I) read at a pace that gives the most pleasure, knowledge, and fun. Reading isn't a competition, although to some, EVERYTHING is a competition.
The problem is NOT with newsletter, but with GoodReads itself:WHY yet there is not option to classify a boohk that you use only now and then, as dictionaries and similars? Without it we have no option but classify in a wrong category books as Manuals of APA and others, or not catalog them in GoodReads.
Worst: GoodReads doesn't present a link to post suggestions or so.
I still hope you'll fix it.
Noreene wrote: "I agree with Sharon; I read so many I can't recall just what one I am reading now. Too much trouble to get author and title, etc. And more nonfiction is important."Agreed! I have 8 pages with lists of books I've read that haven't been entered yet.
Ashley wrote: "I feel like the newsletter, like Goodreads in general, is so fiction-centric. I know that's more popular here than non-fiction, but we non-fiction readers do still exist! :)"I totally agree, Ashley. Too much fiction isn't worth picking up. For the most part, if it's on a Best Sellers List, I want nothing to do with it. Romance and Historical fiction is especially awful.
Linda wrote: "I miss the foreign book section that was previously included in the news letter. It was a very good resource for books not commonly seen in popular book reviews."I agree with Linda. It would be so nice to have a foreign book section. As well as book in different languages...
I especially like the authors' favourite picks, because I like lists. I would like to see more non-fiction selections, because fiction is a tiny part of my reading. I'm new to Goodreads so I don't remember a foreign books section, but I would be interested in one--very much so. And I agree with the many readers about the updating issue. Except in rare cases, I only update when I start a book and then when I finish. I have no interest in keeping track of pages read while I'm in the middle of a book.
Technology issue: if I don't search for a book when I first access your website, I can't seem to get back to a search screen. You need a search option in your menu.
It is too busy, too much going on. Simplify it. Maybe have multiple newsletters, if you like romance you get this, if you like biography you get a different one. If you like new and upcoming authors then you get a different one.
I am not a fan of the sponsored books, I want suggestions based on my likes/dislikes and editors picks.
The GLBT books are over looked on Goodreads. Being a lesbian I feel left out not having the GLBT genre featured. All other genres are featured why not this one? I am sure a lot of other people feel this way also. I hope this lack of representation changes.

I LOVE the poetry contest, though. Y'all are just wrong ;)
