Rowling has gone out of her way to be purposely transphobic and has only ever put the minimum amount of diversity in her books, and usually just as instruments of the plot (Cho Chang for example). The alias name she chose to use when writing her thriller novels, is also the name of the man that created gay conversion therapy. It's not likely that was an accident.Riordan has listened to criticism about lack of diversity in his books and has gone on to include it in a healthy way. Not just with supporting characters, but with main characters as well. He also created an imprint to elevate minority authors and help them share their stories.
I'm not trying to say that the Percy Jackson series is better or worse than Harry Potter, but from what I know of the authors, I definitely prefer Rick Riordan over J.K. Rowling.
Rowling all the way. JK Rowling is a good writer, but she's an excellent storyteller. As far as authors of children's/YA fantasy go, she's arguably the best that's ever been. Her heretofore greatest achievement, Harry Potter, has a breadth and depth of appeal virtually unmatched in all of popular literature, much less in genre fiction.
She is a masterful person and very encouraging

I prefer Uncle Rick because he does a better job at everything from shipping to just writing good backstories of characters and connecting all of it to mythology. He deserves his own genre, and I would fight for it. He also does a really great job of adding minority characters, not just in the background, but as part of the main plot. I feel proud to be Asian because Frank Zhang is so relatable. Big and imposing on the outside, yet soft and vulnerable on the inside. We can all relate to him.
In my opinion, Rick is better. The PJO series has taken my heart and is just outstanding.
I grew up in a Harry-Potter loving household, but as soon as I read The Lightning Thief, I was hooked.
My mother had me read Harry Potter 1 through 4 when I was about 7-8 years old, than made me wait until I was older to continue on to reading book 5.
From ages 7-8, I LOVED re-reading Harry Potter 1-4 over and over again, but than I started hearing about J. K. Rowling's Transphobic comments. That completely ruined the series for me.
I have since read books 5-7, including Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and I must admit I enjoyed the books, but I still prefer PJO, HOO, and TOA over Harry Potter.
Uncle Rick is the dam best.
