I'm kind of thinking I should have posted a picture of Mel Gibson and Russell Crow! What was I thinking? Anyway, these are two historical setting that I love. It is EXTREMLY hard to find any Gladiator stories, and the couple clean ones I have found are Christian Lit and tended to be preachy. There are also a ton of Highlander books out there, but its also hard to find clean ones. I think Marcia is awesome at writing her historicals and I'd love to see her tackle one or both of these genres. I voted for Gladiator because I just thought that'd make an awesome setting and totally swoony hero!

Another tough one! :) I voted Highlander because I'm reading a book with a Scottish guy in it right now and that accent is totally swoony.

I know, right? This was a tough one for me too, I had to go with Gladiator though since there are so few gladiator books out there. :)

So true, Kathy--I don't think I've read one.

Maybe I should post more gladiator pics (to help sway the vote!) I mean, wouldn't you want to read about this guy? ;)

Have you read Spartan heart by Kristine Cheney? Two good books about a gladiator hero.

Lol, that's some picture!

Ann♥♪♪♪♪ I had to vote for Highlander, cool accent, love plaids. Plus, I don't understand gladiators....two people fighting to the death for the entertainment of others - human life has value, not to be discarded for depravity.

Brea I actually lived in Scotland for a while and while I ABSOLUTELY love myself a Scottish man (really, like I dated a couple)....I have to go for a gladiator setting. I love reading books set in Roman times. (Sometimes I pretend like I believe in reincarnation and I know I was a Roman in a past life!! Haha.)

Ann- I agree, I don't like the violent aspect of it all. I am far from an expert on the topic, but I think at least in some cases the gladiators were slaves and forced to fight, which is just horrible. I'd like to think though that maybe there were more humane forms, more like our modern boxing or MMA fighting. Which is still violent, but more for sport and not for death or anything like that. I think Marcia could do an awesome job writing it with strong characters that have good values. It would be a hard one to write, trying to balance historical accuracy with more modern ideals.

I also think historically Highlanders were a pretty violent bunch as well. Maybe not to the extreme of Gladiators, but unfortunately no matter the time period there is always some form of violence. Marcia would be able to soften it though. Her books may have some violence, but they are always handled well and never the main plot. I think she'd be able to write a fun gladiator or highlander story that would focus on romance and not on violence. :)

Anne Yes that was what I was thinking about the Gladiators, very violent, I have read a couple of Roman romances which were not very violent but if it is about a gladiator there is sure to be some violence as that is what they had to do to survive. So maybe the Highlander is a better option although there are so many of them but they are very popular I for one read them a lot.

Ann♥♪♪♪♪ Cool, that we agree, Kathy. I've read, too, that some were slaves, and that's a truly horrible situation. :(

A book with strong characters and good values sounds great to me. I know sometimes violence is necessary to protect people and keep them safe and for peace, that's realistic - I just don't like fight-to-the-death-violence for "entertainment".
I would definitely be interested in reading a story about a Highlander by Marcia Lynn McClure - I've not read much of hers yet, but absolutely love the kissing scenes I've read. :)
