During the several hundred years of Shang rule, bronze weapons formed an integral part of every Shang warrior’s arsenal. 22 The preferred weapon was the ko (halberd, or dagger-ax), 23 supplemented by spears24 and the compound bow.25 Bronze-tipped arrows, propelled by reflex bows whose pull may have reached 160 pounds, provided effective action at a distance.
