Jacob blinked, just a smidgeon more pointedly than he normally would have. I took that to be shorthand for a drawn out, long-suffering sigh. And maybe an eye roll.

There we were, Jacob and me. We weren’t exactly spooning anymore. It looked more like he’d taken a sudden header and pinned me to the bed, where I decided it was futile to try to squeeze out from under him, so I might as well surrender and get some shut-eye myself.

While my face was the white noise of the facial expression continuum, Jacob’s was more like a symphony. His eyes softened and went all smitten, and he grabbed me by the shoulders, pulled me against him and stopped just short of kissing me hard, and instead, brought our lips together soft as a whisper while his whole body trembled with tension.
