something called her eyes back up. They fell upon a man standing at the entrance of the alleyway on the far side of the nightclub, a man who somehow seemed entirely out of place and exactly like he belonged there. A man who was looking right at her.
Because he never truly loved me. He loves what I can give him, loves that I do anything he needs. Loves that he gets to be in charge.
Because I desperately wanted someone to love me for once. To see me as enough.
The stranger reached toward her and brushed the back of a finger down her cheek, leaving warm tingles in its wake. “Breathe, Violet.” Willow released a slow, shaky breath. He stroked her other cheek. “That’s a good girl.” Heat pooled between her thighs. Oh God.
Kian opened his eyes. “Sorry, Violet. One night wasn’t enough. You’re still mine.”
She was his. His mate. His soul knew it with a certainty that his mind could not dispute, though it defied all logic and reason.
“I’m a fae, Willow, not a fucking demon,” he said. “But you said you’re an incubus. Isn’t that a…a fucking demon?”
“Fuck, you’re delicious.”
“I want your pleasure. I want you to writhe in ecstasy, to scream my name, to claw at my skin. I want you to come undone. And then I want to do it again, and again, and again, because you have made me yearn like never before.”
“I want love. The kind of love that doesn’t die. That keeps burning, on and on, and is so much bigger and brighter than any flame. The kind of love that only happens when two souls see each other and know they can’t exist without one another.”
“Give me a chance,” he whispered before brushing his lips over her forehead. “Show me. Teach me about mortal love. Teach me how to love you.”
“I already told you what I really want, Kian. Love. I want the love of someone who will be there for me when I feel like the world is breaking apart around me. Someone who will share not just joy and laughter, but sorrow and pain. Someone who will fight with me but love me all the more for it.” Tears stung her eyes. “I want someone who will still want me when I’m wrinkled and old, who will love me until my final breath.”
“Reality is even stranger than your books, isn’t it?” “Not unless half-spider, half-humanoid creatures exist too.”
Two hearts beating in time. Two minds, two souls, intertwined…
“I could spend a hundred thousand years walking every realm and never find another soul as beautiful as yours.”
“My sweet, sweet mortal… You’ve gone far too long without someone caring about what you want.”
“Because if I had to choose between you and anyone else, the world could fucking burn for all I care.”
Even after the last spark of my soul fizzles out and there’s nothing left of me, you will be my everything.”
“I’d be hollow without you, Willow.
“You taught me to love, my little mortal. And I love you.”
“I have met many beautiful creatures, Willow. But you are the only one I’ve known who is utterly captivating both inside and out. You shine brighter than all the rest, be they mortal or fae.”
I want nothing more than to slide into your dripping cunt and fuck you until the universe collapses.”
“I love you.” “I love you too, Violet,” he said, stroking her hair.
“My sweet, beautiful Willow,” he rumbled, caressing her cheek with his thumb. “Eternity is not nearly long enough a time to love you, but I will savor every fucking moment of it.”
