Dallas clings to me so tightly, it’s like I’m the lifeboat in the middle of a storm.
“Say something,” he says. “We fit,” I blurt out. He looks confused for a moment. “What?” “On the couch when we fall asleep. When I hug you when you’re hurting. When you protect me from the world.” I look up at him. “We fit.” He takes my face in his hands. “We do fit.”
“I’m only thinking about what I’ll gain.” “Which is what?” “You,” he says simply. “You are all I want.”
“I’m not scared of, like, spiders or mice.” His gaze is steady. “I’m scared of what tomorrow is going to feel like if you’re not there. I’m scared of going another day without telling you how I really feel.”
