Speaking of peoples where there is defiance against God, he wrote, “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him (Rom. 1:21, emphasis mine). Two issues mark decadent societies according to Paul: an unwillingness to acknowledge (or honor) the Creator, and a resistance to gratitude.
