“No,” says Beetee. “It would set a bad precedent. We have to stop viewing one another as enemies. At this point, unity is essential for our survival. No.”
At this point I'm so in awe of Beetee, easily my favorite character. After watching his son be eaten alive by mutt squirrels (down to the bone) as he was forced to mentor him, punished for his original attempt at rebellion, brought BACK to the area in Quarter Quell, nearly paralyzed in his attempt to escape, and then his own technology used to murder innocent children... I don't know how he has any compassion (or logic) is beyond me.
That what I need to survive is not Gale’s fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, “You love me. Real or not real?” I tell him, “Real.”
