To anyone fighting an invisible battle. I see you.
Somehow we click although we’re opposites in almost every single way.
I just signed myself up to help Declan—for better or for worse. Till death do us part.
I blink at her. “Don’t tell me you’re marrying me out of the goodness of your heart?” Her dark brows pull together, and she stands taller. “So what if I am?”
“Let’s go. I don’t have time for your shit.” Now that reply makes me smile. “Ahh. There’s the big, grumpy man I know and like.” His voice lowers. “One day that mouth is going to get you in trouble.”
My eyes bulge as he shoves a spoon full of cake into my open mouth. “I finally found the perfect way to shut you up.” I glare at him as I taste the most delicious dessert I’ve ever had. His gaze remains glued to my lips as he drags the clean spoon past them. “All I need to do is keep your mouth permanently occupied.” I graciously proceed to choke.
“I don’t do manual labor.” “Then thank God we’re not having a child the old-fashioned way or else I’d be stuck doing all the work.” Any rebuttal gets trapped in my throat, which only makes her laugh. “You think you’re funny?” “I’d rather be that than a lazy lay.” She runs out the door, obviously pleased with herself for stunning me into silence.
My ability to be the only person who can throw her off-kilter fills me with a burning sense of satisfaction.
“You’ve really thought of everything, haven’t you?” “Everything except for you.”
She laughs, and the sound draws me toward her like a siren’s call.
You’re not supposed to be lusting after your paid-per-vow wife’s smiles.
Being this close to her does something catastrophic to my self-restraint. I’m not sure whether it’s the lack of human contact I’ve had or desiring something forbidden, but I keep being drawn to her.
“I can assure you that I will always have Iris’s best interests at heart.” Even if they jeopardize mine.
While he might be considered cold to the rest of the world, he makes me burn.
Sparks break out across my skin as our lips touch, and liquid heat spreads through my veins. Kissing her is addictive. Thrilling.
“You look good on your knees, Mr. Kane.” “Try to not let it get to your head.”
I have come to realize that, while her smile might be my weakness, her damp lashes clinging together will surely be my downfall.
His puzzled expression is cute. No. Not cute! Declan and the word cute belong together as much as water and electricity. Both equally deadly.
I text my knight in shining Armani.
“I’m only agreeing to this scheme because you broke a few laws to make it happen.” “If I ever get caught, it’s a good thing I have you to bail me out of jail.” “Who says I wouldn’t be in there with you?” My grin might make my cheeks hurt, but his small smile causes my whole chest to ache.
“I’m enjoying the view.” She glances out the window. “Says the man who hasn’t even looked outside once.” “That’s not the view I’m talking about.”
“I’m not confused. Far from it, actually. I know exactly what I want.” “And what is that?” “You.”
Our marriage might be fake, but these feelings burning inside me are anything but. It’s only a matter of time before I make her mine. She just doesn’t know it yet.
He laughs, and it feels like the clouds parted and heaven graced us with a miracle.
Declan’s laugh is a weapon of mass seduction, and I’m its biggest target.
Some men look like a dream. Others a nightmare. Declan happens to be a lethal combination of the two—beautiful in a way that should terrify me.
“What are you doing?” “Helping my wife.” My throat bobs. “You’re growing a bit too comfortable with that nickname for my liking.” “I use it to remind you of your place.” “And what’s that?” “Mine.”
“Who knew you were such a nice guy underneath your grumpy exterior?” “Don’t go telling anyone else or they’ll be disappointed to find out it’s only for you.”
“She taught me how some people need a hundred words to express a single thought, while some people only need one word to share a hundred thoughts.”
We both struggle with words in our own ways. Me with expressing them, and you with reading them.”
Declan, a man who doesn’t speak for longer than five-minute spans of time, spoke to me for hours. The idea makes me far giddier than it should.
“Are you insane?” “When it comes to you, that was never a question.”
I found my newest addiction, and it happens to be my fake husband.
I am falling in love with Iris.
Instead of an intense wave of panic at the idea of loving Iris, I feel calm. Love ,I can work with. I might not know how, but I’m willing to learn. For her and only her.
“What if my feelings are telling me to run?” “It’s cute you think you can outrun me, but I’ll give you a head start just to make things interesting.”
“This could be a disaster, but I’m willing to try.”
“Since when do you care about making people happy?” “I couldn’t care less about anyone else’s happiness besides your own.”
Kissing her feels like I cheated my way into heaven,
