My tolerance for vodka is right up there with my tolerance toward people—nonexistent.
“He will never love you. He is incapable of it.” “If I wanted some fatherly advice from a deadbeat dad, I’d call my own father.”
“You must have a death wish. There’s no explanation for your irrational behavior.” I laugh. “Obviously, or else I would have never agreed to marry you.”
You’re going to hell for lying to your own mother. At least Declan and you can remain together in the afterlife.
“You’re a pain in my ass.” “Nope. That’s just the same old stick acting up again.”
My eyes bulge as he shoves a spoon full of cake into my open mouth. “I finally found the perfect way to shut you up.”
His gaze remains glued to my lips as he drags the clean spoon past them. “All I need to do is keep your mouth permanently occupied.”
“You know, all of this would go a lot faster if you helped me.” “I don’t do manual labor.” “Then thank God we’re not having a child the old-fashioned way or else I’d be stuck doing all the work.”
“Kiss her again and I’ll enjoy ripping your tongue from your throat.” He holds up his hands. “The only reason I told you about our kiss is so that you can stop thinking I want to make a move on her. I’m not interested in her like that. Trust me.” “Because the kiss was terrible,” I repeat back in a voice erased of any emotion. “Because she was never meant to be mine in the first place.” Damn right she wasn’t. Fake marriage or not, Iris is destined to be with one man and one man only. Me.
you hated talking to people but now I totally do. Who would want to with a family like yours?” “If hell were a theme park, they would have lifetime passes.”
“I can assure you that I will always have Iris’s best interests at heart.” Even if they jeopardize mine.
While he might be considered cold to the rest of the world, he makes me burn.
“You look good on your knees, Mr. Kane.”
“Funny,” I reply dryly. “Do you ever laugh?” she asks. “Only when I make people cry.”
“At least you finally get something good out of all of this.” She slaps her desk with a stern look. “You mean there’s supposed to be something better than marrying you? I refuse to believe it.” I turn and walk toward my door, hiding the grin spreading across my face. Iris is the only person with the ability to make me smile.
“Get my wife whatever she wants.”
“Is it just me or do you seem to have an unhealthy obsession with my mouth lately?” “Who says it’s unhealthy?”
“Why would I want that?” “Because I think you like talking to me.” “Is anyone else aware of what a narcissist you are?” “I’m surprised you noticed with how obsessed you are with yourself.”
I have the perfect plan.” Seeing as her last plan ended up with us being married, I can only imagine how this one will go.
“What changed your mind?” He leans in. “Not having to think about anything but which way I wanted to fuck you next.”
“So, I was thinking…” I speak louder, gaining the attention of my target. “That can never be a good thing.” I laugh as I shove his shoulder. “Shut up. We both know you actually like my brain.” “I like your heart more.”
“Why not? Rowan will be in town for a budget meeting, so it’s the perfect time for all of us to get together.” He avoids my gaze as he assesses his menu. “That’s our thing.”
“If you had it your way, everything would be our thing so that you never had to share me with anyone else, you territorial caveman.” “I’m glad you finally understand. It took you long enough.”
“You’re cute when you get all possessive.” I don’t mean it, yet his nostrils seem to flare regardless. “Not sure you’ll be feeling the same way once we get home.”
“I’m enjoying the view.” She glances out the window. “Says the man who hasn’t even looked outside once.” “That’s not the view I’m talking about.”
“I’m not confused. Far from it, actually. I know exactly what I want.” “And what is that?” “You.”
Our marriage might be fake, but these feelings burning inside me are anything but.
she jolts forward to avoid my fingers, all to run right into my now hardening cock. Her wide eyes blink up at me. “Please tell me that’s a phone in your front pocket.”
“It’s a shame you don’t laugh like that more often.” I lift my hand and cup her chin. “Maybe I finally have a reason to.”
“Fine, Mr. Food Network. Why don’t you show me how it’s done?” “Did it hurt to swallow your pride?” “Ehh. I’ve swallowed worse.”
“What are you doing?” “Helping my wife.” My throat bobs. “You’re growing a bit too comfortable with that nickname for my liking.” “I use it to remind you of your place.” “And what’s that?” “Mine.”
“Greedy as always.” “More like famished.” “That makes two of us,” he replies huskily as he presses his hips into my ass. That’s definitely not a phone in his pocket this time. I can tell that much. “I think we’re talking about two different hungers here.”
“Who knew you were such a nice guy underneath your grumpy exterior?” “Don’t go telling anyone else or they’ll be disappointed to find out it’s only for you.”
“They must be pretty important if you’re going out of your way to subject yourself to walking around a garden for hours while holding my hand.” “You have no idea.” I turn my head away so he doesn’t catch me smiling at his lie.
He planned a date for me and pretended it was a fake one just so I would go. I don’t think anyone has done something so sweet for me ever.
“I hate you,” I say through gritted teeth. “I look forward to fucking the lies right out of you.”
“Stop fighting and give me ten minutes.” “You don’t deserve ten seconds, let alone ten minutes of my time.” “How about ten words then?” I laugh. “I’d like to see you try.” “I am falling in love with you, Iris Elizabeth Kane.”
“I read somewhere online that sans serif fonts are easier for people with dyslexia to read, so I changed my requirements. Forced everyone else I oversee to switch with me or else they would face my wrath. All because I wanted to help you.”
“What if my feelings are telling me to run?” “It’s cute you think you can outrun me, but I’ll give you a head start just to make things interesting.”
“Since when do you care about making people happy?” “I couldn’t care less about anyone else’s happiness besides your own.”
“I could come at the sight of you, ass up, facedown, and wet for me.”
“I could spend the rest of forever with you and it still wouldn’t be enough time to finish everything I have planned for us.”
“Why?” I croak. “Because there is nothing I want more than to turn a house into a home with you.”
