In His discourse to the woman at the well of Samaria, Jesus said, “God is Spirit and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The Latin word spiritus from which we get our word “spirit” comes from a root that means “to breathe, to blow, to live.” Spirit, then, is the Life Principle, the divine breath which God is breathing out as man and the Universe.
