“I will spend the rest of my life rectifying last night.” His eyes sprung open, normal eyes, human eyes, so I couldn’t understand why my muscles ached to run. “Someone was here that would have killed you if he knew what you are. I did not want him to suspect anything, which I know is not entirely convincing, but I hope you know I mean you no harm.” “What am I?” I gripped the comforter between sweaty fingers. “Better yet, what are you?” “Well, to start, I’m not the Devil.” He ran his thumb over his lips. “Though if I ever run into him, I’ll be sure to take notes.”
