I’m not easily distracted, but if I could manifest my perfect distraction, it’d look a lot like her.
When did I say that? I’m a romance reader. I have a thing for assholes.
“Ever hear the phrase ‘she’s not like other girls’?”
I like my books with romance, my coffee with more creamer than caffeine, and I even take aesthetic pictures of my food anytime I’m at a restaurant.”
“Regardless of your apartment décor, life isn’t always black and white, Ryan.”
His eyes lift to me before they trail down my face, glide along my neck, and linger a little longer on my chest.
“Do you want me to get on my knees and beg or something?” “Now that you say it.” She cocks her head to the side, eyes roaming my length. “I wouldn’t mind knowing what you look like on your knees, Shay.”
“You came to my apartment crying then drooled over how amazing I looked as I stood shirtless in my kitchen. Then you threw up all over my shoes. Is that cute enough for you?”
He’s been my driver for four years and I’ve never seen him so quickly shift loyalties than in this moment as the blonde at my side shoots him commands.
and I'd happily let him bend me over this bar top.”
Two ocean eyes break away from the small group crowding the superstar and find me across the room, pinning me with a breath-taking stare.
but you’re shivering. You’re taking my jacket.” I’m not shivering because I’m cold.
I want her here. I want her to want to be here. Fuck, when did that happen?
“Ryan, my guy, you’re so completely fucked, and you can’t even see it.”
A bit of marshmallow falls onto his chin, and without thinking, I wipe it off with my thumb. But before I can clean off the mess, he grabs my hand and takes my finger in his mouth to suck off the remnants.
She inhales deeply. “Ryan?” “Hmm?” “Why do you smell like coconut?”
Ryan Shay can’t help but be a gentleman.
“You’re not broken,” he rasps against my skin. “You just didn’t have the right distraction.”
“Please don’t stop.” The words are more desperate than they’ve ever been. “Never, baby.”
“There’s my girl.”
I hope one day I find it again. I hope one day Ryan will wish it for himself too.
“There is better out there, and if anyone deserves to get everything they want in life, it’s you.” “You deserve to have your dreams come true too.”
“Good God.” I throw my head back. “Book boyfriend material.” “I have no idea what that means.” “Just agree with me.”
My little clean freak.
Some people don’t deserve your unwavering loyalty.”
“Come home with me, Blue.”
Waking up and thinking of you, falling asleep and wishing you were there, it’s been distracting, tiresome, and goddamn infuriating, but I wouldn’t give you up for the world.”
“I don’t want casual.” She quickly shakes her head. “I never have, not with you. I’m sorry I let you believe that. You’ve been like a flash of lightning straight to my heart and I’ve been done for ever since.
“I can be anything for you, baby.”
My home, my heart, all of it, is with you.
You brought me back to life, Ind, and I will love you as long as you’ll let me.”
I will burn the world down to protect her
“You know that jersey you’ve got with my last name on it? When you see it hanging there in your closet, let it serve as a reminder to you, that soon enough, it’ll be her last name too.”
“How else would you get to live a thousand lives in the span of only one? The beauty of fiction is that it makes you feel things on a visceral level. You can cry with those characters, laugh with them. It teaches you to look at another’s perspective, to have empathy. In nonfiction, you simply learn about something instead of feeling it.”
“Stevie Renee Shay, are you kidding me?
“His name in my phone is about to take on a whole new meaning, huh?”
You can even add this promise to the fridge when you get home. -Ryan
Sometimes history really means nothing when the right people walk into your life.
That I’m deserving of the love I read about. I’m
deserving of the family I desire, and I know this because I fell in love with a man while I was being completely and utterly myself and he fell right alongside me.
“Daily update, Vee—we’re doing this forever, but first I need your help with something.”
This place is bursting with love and attention. I don’t know how else to explain it other than it feels like the textbook definition of a home.
My best friend and the person who owns every part of me.
You make me feel deserving of all the things I want in life. I don’t know where you came from or how I got so lucky to be loved by you, but Ryan, I adore you.”
I loved seeing you stand up for the things you want. Don’t stop doing that. Even if it’s me you’re facing off with, don’t settle for less.”
“I think that sounds like the right move.”
“I will love you for the rest of my life,” she whispers against my lips. It’s a promise, coming from the most loyal woman I know. “Forever, Blue.”
