“You should never have to beg someone to be ready for a future,”
“It is when it comes to love. Either you want each other, or you don’t. Six years and a lifetime of memories is more than enough time to figure it out. He was stalling. You need to move on.”
It’s mine. And it’s from Ryan.
Sure, he didn’t realize that I was wide awake most of the night wondering why my new roommate wasn’t home yet, but I was.
“Do you want me to get on my knees and beg or something?” “Now that you say it.” She cocks her head to the side, eyes roaming my length. “I wouldn’t mind knowing what you look like on your knees, Shay.”
“What an amazing guy to buy you a bed. Probably makes you want to return a favor. He seems like a wonderful person.” Indy rolls her eyes. “He’s on my shit list at the moment.”
“And keep your teammates in check. If I hear that one of them tries anything with her again, I’m coming to you.”
“Ryan, my guy, you’re so completely fucked, and you can’t even see it.”
“You saved me out there.” “We’re a team. I’m here to help you out.” “I like the way that sounds.”
“Don’t make those little noises while you’re sitting on my lap.” He grabs my thigh, his lips dangerously close to mine while he speaks. “Otherwise, you’re not going to be able to get up for a while.”
“Aren’t we the cutest family foursome you’ve ever seen?”
“You look good wearing my last name, Blue.”
“Sometimes the quietest love is the loudest,”
I will burn the world down to protect her and I’ll proudly wave the match, so everyone knows I’m the one who did it.”
“You know that jersey you’ve got with my last name on it? When you see it hanging there in your closet, let it serve as a reminder to you, that soon enough, it’ll be her last name too.”
“Read with me?” “God.” My head falls back. “Talk dirty to me, why don’t you.”
“How else would you get to live a thousand lives in the span of only one? The beauty of fiction is that it makes you feel things on a visceral level. You can cry with those characters, laugh with them. It teaches you to look at another’s perspective, to have empathy. In nonfiction, you simply learn about something instead of feeling it.”
Blue, I’m not great with words, so I’ll keep this short. I love you. I will love you as long as you'll allow me the privilege, and even longer after that. I have every intention to give you the life you want. I hope you’ll let me. You can even add this promise to the fridge when you get home. -Ryan
“I’m Ryan?” I ask, using his sign for my name. He nods, smiling. Abigale leans her head on Tim’s shoulder as she looks at me. “Is that my sign name?” I ask him to the best of my ability. “Yes.” Words stick in my throat, so I simply nod, sign, and mouth, “Thank you.” “No. Thank you.”
