that the “secret” of the Eleusinian Mysteries was the words whispered to the novice after he got the magic mushroom: “Osiris is a black God!”
Gee, my High Priestess told me it was a stalk of rye infected with ergot. Along w/the whole 'Dionysus is dead! Long live Dionysus!' thing. All the good gods died for our crops.
Don't eat ergot. Seriously. It can destroy your fertility, along with the rest of you.
The US Supreme Court is plotting to overturn Roe v. Wade as I'm reading this book.
“May storms and rains and typhoons beat them,” Howard sang on. “May Great Cthulhu rise and eat them.”
Chaos steadily increases, all over the universe. All ‘law and order’ is a kind of temporary accident.”
Fernando Poo,
Fernando Poo”),
“All hail Discordia.”
Property was theft, certainly, in Old Grandfather’s world, Hagbard thought.
It is bad for a man to be obeyed too often.
Fernando Poo!”
Fernando Poo?
“Fernando Poo!”
“All hail Discordia,”
“Are ye a human being, and not a cabbage or something?” George giggled. “Yes.” “That’s too bad,” the voice boomed.
“Motherfucking? No, that’s for when we ordain deacons.”
“We neither look forward to death in fear nor back upon it in sorrow. Especially when someone has died doing something worthwhile.
“Energy can neither be created nor destroyed,” said Hagbard. “Death itself is an illusion.”
Death adheres to physics. The body dies, decays, and fuels processes of decay. Or it's burned, releasing heat and light. Or whatever else happens to it. The brain, center of our consciousness, decays or is burned along with the rest. We're not separate from our brains & bodies, we're embedded in it.

All hail Discordia,
“That’s it—isn’t it?” Saul gasped. “That’s their whole gimmick. I couldn’t see you without seeing a woman. I couldn’t see that editor, Jackson, without seeing a Negro. I couldn’t see anybody without seeing the attached label and classification.”
This is why I believe R. A. Wilson was not a racist, homophobic, misogynist P. O. S. as a lot of reviewers call him.
This book is not an easy read now. I think a lot of people wouldn't have thought anything was unusual about it back in '75.
Discordianism is equal opportunity chaos.
How can you understand a people of whom it has been said, truthfully, that they have one foot in their own land and one foot in Thule?
A 4th century bce Greek explorer, Pytheas, described ice-covered islands that he found. The name he gave them was Thule.
Hitler co-opted the legendary island as the birthplace of the Aryans, and made it into a racist Promised Land.
(Pytheas found the islands off the northwest coast of Britain, and in 2010, scientists confirmed that it may have been the Norwegian island of Smola).
