Stories we tell come out like the way you walk the woods if you want to know it—zigzagging, doubling back, maybe tripling, sometimes enough to find out that the parts you know the least about are the parts closest to home.

You go to school to learn there’s too much garbage, but you never learn enough to fix jack shit, so you end up thinking everything’s busted for good and you throw it away, filling up the landfills everybody’s complaining about.
