I could disown you, I would. In fact,
“You’ve never fallen out of love with him. Your first love is like a tidal wave. Your head can break above the water, and you might even make it to shore, but the slightest nudge and you’re in the deep again. Now, that’s not true for all people, but it is for you and Blake. You are each other’s oceans.”
figured it was time I stopped running and had a talk with you. Man to man. And I know this is the biggest opening you’ve had so far. You did a good job,” he added gruffly. “A really good job. I’m proud of you.” I’m proud of you.
Coincidence, you’re a bitch. You know that?
“What crawled up your ass and died? You’ve been acting like a moody sonofabitch all day.”
“Seriously?” Sammy groaned. “What did you do this time? How is it possible for one person to fuck up so many times?”
“You should know better than to take my advice. You also need to take a chill pill and sign up for anger management classes. Stat.”
“No, it’s not. It’s simple. You. Are. An. Idiot. Of the highest degree.” Justin shook his head in disgust. “Congratulations, Sir Idiot, you win the award for Most Fucked-Up Reasoning of the Year.”
She’s in love with you, you freakin’ doofus. You’re in love with her. Don’t make this so hard. Figure it out.”
“Moron,” Justin said. “I have a moron for a boss.”
“Thank God. Otherwise, your stupidity might bleed into me by osmosis.”
“Don’t make me do it through the door. Your neighbor just passed by, and I’m pretty sure they think I’m a crazed stalker. They’ll probably call the police.”
“I was always in love with you. Even when I thought I forgot you. Even when I thought I was over you.”
“From the day I met you, you chipped away at my heart, piece by piece, until you took the entire thing. And you never gave it back, you bastard.”
“But I no longer want yours.”
“Since I saw how miserable you are. You can ignore him all you want, but if you really wanted to get rid of him, you’d have called the cops on his ass a long time ago.”
“You have zero sense of self-preservation,” she fumed. “You could’ve died!”
“I’m still alive. But it’s nice to know you care,” Blake teased.
You can stay or you can leave, but know this: if you aren’t by my side, it doesn’t matter how bright the sun shines. I’d rather live in eternal darkness with you than live in eternal sunshine without you.
“You’re not a terrible person, Blake,”
whispered, cupping his face with one hand. “Those dark, selfish thoughts you have? We all have them. It doesn’t make you a monster. It makes you human.”
“You know a lot of things about me, Blake Ryan, but here’s what you don’t know. I never fell out of love with you, not even after Shanghai. I told myself I did, but it was a lie. This is my truth: you are my One Big Love, my fairy tale, my Hollywood romance. I want all of you the same way you want all of me. Every scar, every smile, every dream and nightmare. I’ve been falling all this time; I just needed you to stop running long enough to catch me. Also…” Farrah leaned in, her breath tickling his lips. “I think darkness is beautiful. And I fucking love sunsets.”
“Last chance. Don’t fuck it up,”
“I’m going to kill them. This was not what I meant when I said privacy. Now I have to hire a crew to disinfect the entire room.”
“Consider this my honeymoon present to you, even though you got engaged after me and married before me, you bitch.”
The next day, Farrah curled up in a seat by the window and read the manuscript from front to back, until the sun sank beneath the horizon and moonlight streamed through the windows, illuminating the tearstained pages of a story about a girl and a boy who fell in love, in a city long ago and far away.
“Five years ago, I asked you to be my girlfriend in this very spot. Now, you’re my wife.” Blake stopped walking and pressed his forehead against her. “We’ve come full circle, haven’t we?”
