Make it stop. Not high enough, I whisper to myself through the pain. When will the pain end? When…?
Helia
this passage was very confusing. Actually, everything so far has been so weird, had I not watch the movie I would have no idea what is going on. The movie does a better job at setting the stage by letting you know upfront what is happening: an alien race subdued human race and took over our bodies, like Invasion of the body snatchers. But this book tries to keep it all secret, as if this a mistery where the point is to reveal the truth as slowly as possible. But for what I gather this book focuses more on the romance and the relationship between Wanda and the human girl she took over than the mystery of who the aliens are. For a writer with whole 4 books under her bealt this feels very amateurish.

Please tell me this is not her remembering her boyfriend. Who does that? such a weird thing coming from a female author. Like, Paolini did it as well, when Kira saw her fiancee and I was weird but I took it as a case of man writing women, plus he wrote that when he was like 15 so I get it. But Stephanie is like over 40 and she´s married, and this is not the kind of thoughts girls usually have, not healthy well balanced girls, at least.

“Violence is part of your life choice. Does enough of your body’s native temperament linger to give you enjoyment of the horror?”
Helia
You know, I'm not liking the way this parasitic aliens keep berating the human bodies they take over, and it really makes no sense. I get it they feel superior, but they don't have physical forms so it's so strange to me that they talk about the bodies they fuse with with so much distance and disdain. Like, if we are so below you why don't you go and infest someone else? If your only way of surviving is taking over other physical forms and you MUST fuse with them completely to understand their lenguage and their culture to be able to function, why complain so much?, and you've done that from the dawn of time, why are so surprised at fiding emotions and reactions you are unfamiliar with and you find undesirable? Shouldn't you know all species are differente? My point is, if this race is so above us and so noble, then why do you all of you act like entitle brats?

pain or trauma.
Helia
how does this dr know what pain and trauma are? Isn't the whole point of this alien race that they have no emotions? How can you be traumatized when you can't feel emotions? Because emotions are a response of the bodie to thoughts, if you are thinking your own thoughts regardless of what happened to the body you are wearing, it shouldn't affect you. If you are an emotionless void and feel nothing even when confronted to paint and torture it should not affect you, right?

but...aren't all colonizations violent by nature? how was the first wave of take overs? if they hadn't been violent people wouldn't fear them as much, in fact some freaks might even welcome them. Are you telling me no one ever fought you before, and all other bodies were hijacked without the slightes resistance?

This Wanderer will need more comfort than most, thanks to your style of Seeking.”
Helia
I mean, I'm sure her last moments were difficult, but they make them sound as if she's the most traumatize person in the whole earth and like, IRL there are so many more horrific ways to die (and to live by the way) that this really is not as dramatic as you want it to be. She was just captured, she wasn't tortured to death, traffiqued or sold into sexual slavery, she wasn't a solider in the battle field or war prisioner, she just got caught. And I'm sure that sucks but is not the worse death I can think off

The exception, I assure you, not the rule. Do not forget, the weapons that disgust you are turned on our kind wherever we Seekers have not been vigilant enough. The humans kill us happily whenever they have the ability to do so. Those whose lives have been touched by the hostility see us as heroes.”
Helia
I don't like the way they speak, why these convuluted, long ass sentences? why this formality? I understand you want to make them sound alien but if they learned to talk from their host memories they should talk like their host did, not like robots.

this is the kind of description you can't use when using the first person perspective, because you can't tell when your own nostrils have flared unless you're lookin in the mirror. Rookie mistake. No one edits her books anymore?

made them more profound—made it more sacred and painful that he would cry them in front of me. This was the grief of a man at the funeral for his entire family. My arms wound around him, not fitting as easily as they used to, and I cried, too. “I’m sorry,” I said again and again. I apologized for everything in those two words. That we’d ever found this place. That we’d chosen it. That I’d been the one to take his sister. That I’d brought her back here and hurt him again.
