Hudson Taylor was converted at the age of seventeen while looking for a book to read in his father’s library. He stumbled upon a tract titled “It Is Finished” and decided he had to know exactly what it was that was finished. By the time he had read the tract and searched out some of the answers for himself, he had, in his words, “made Christ his Savior.” Months later, on December 2, 1849, he was spending time alone in prayer when the matter of China came to his mind.
