From an auditory perspective, not only may they have difficulty with understanding speech in noise and telling where a sound is coming from, but they may have difficulty in linking the “left-brain” speech sound and language functions with the “right-brain” tone-of-voice or prosodic cues, resulting in some confusion and miscomprehension of what is being said and meant.
